Magic Bands vs…?

We’re going to WDW in September so we could still get (pay for :() magic bands, but what are we using other than that for paying for stuff? our phones? Is that how we get into our rooms too? (Why are they taking all the magic away?)

Thank you!

You don't really "pay" for things using your band, I know it's semantics, but you are making a charge to your folio which is settled each night against whatever form of payment you have on file for your stay. If you were using Apple, Samsung, or Google Pay you would be making a real charge.

Using the phone to open the door can be problematic... sometimes it's off and your experience may vary based on the phone you have.

Are people under the impression that Disney won't give you a room key?

Do you have magic bands from a previous trip? If so, those will work for park entry, room entry, charging to the room, and FP if it ever comes back.

If so use them.

You can use a magic band, card, or your phone to open your room door.

Personally I like the ease of magic bands.
You have to be careful. Some of the older generation bands don’t work so well. I learned this the hard way last month. I used an older one but my family had used newer ones so mine didn’t always work on the room door. I didn’t even realize when I grabbed them that some had a different shape.

Problem with alternatives then magic band is you can not use it in the water parks.

You could use your apple watch but i don’t know if you are allowed to wear it on water rides.

I’d still like to know when they switched the resort charge protocol?

one practical effect of that is that it makes resort charging mostly pointless…it only really keeps you from carrying a card in your pocket…not much more than that.

I tried numerous times to open my door with the app at the Boardwalk and it never worked. I went to the front desk about it and they said I would have to contact IT. Well, we all know how Disney IT is, so I had to use my magicband to get in my room instead. I could have gotten a key card, but I didn't want to have to worry about getting out each time to swipe.

this can have a big difference to visitors from overseas. If you pay individually you often pay an exchange fee on each transaction which can soon add up. If you can charge to a room account and then pay in one go you can save a fair bit of money

True…but that’s still a small slice of the pie…for Disney to care.

but just to make sure you understand: they whack your card as you go. So you would get multiple hits anyway. If you remember to go that night at 10 pm…you get your way and pay once…if you miss it and the computer hits…it’s multiple.

I can’t believe I missed that they changed the charge policy…I have no clue how I missed that?
