Love the report so far!! We stayed at CBR in November and I wasn't too fond of it. It just seemed so spread out. We were in Martinique so we were close to Old Port Royale but even then it was still about 4-5 minute walk to get there. I prefer the small, compact resorts but it was very pretty!

How awesome that Grant wasn't scared of the characters! So many times I see little ones crying and hiding and I'm like "Oh, gosh, that will be my kids when I have them! They will HATE the charatcers!" only because I love them so much! haha. And good choice with Chef Mickey's and Rainforest. I love both those places! :)

Can't wait to read more!

So excited to see your new TR and that you guys have a baby now! He is absolutely adorable and seems so well-behaved...a real "go with the flow" kinda guy!

I don't think I ever told you, but it was thanks to your last TR that my family and I rented DVC points at BWV for our last trip. I had never even heard of renting points before I read your TR and your positive experience prompted me to do it. We had a great time and it was such a steal to stay at a Deluxe resort for Value/Mod price!

Can't wait to read more!

I'm so glad you guys rented points! It worked out awesome for us and I just wanted to let others know about that option. To us, it's a no brainer. I think we are going to rent points in a couple of years and make a trip to Hawaii to check out Aulani.
Thanks for following along!

After our meal, we wanted to check out the shop for a little while. For those of you who have never been to this Rainforest Cafe, the shop is bigger than the actual restaurant.
Most of us looked around at the stuffed animals, shirts and hats. Grant was more concerned with the questionable creatures that were lurking around...

Enough shopping! We were ready to head back into the park and hit some attractions - namely Expedition Everest, one of my favorite rides in all of Walt Disney World. Speaking of EE, we had some FP+ reservations that we weren't able to use earlier because the ride was down... now we were ready to try it again! Off we went...
Grant was excited to get back in the park!

As we approached Everest, we could hear the screams, so we knew it was up and running!

We had planned on using our FP+, but the stand by wait time was only 5 minutes, so Karl, Kay, Brittany, Brooke and I headed through the main queue. Scott and Pam stayed behind with Grant.

I had almost forgotten how much I love this ride! It's definitely one of my top 3 attractions in WDW.
After our ride, I got a quick shot of my two loves with EE in the background...

While we were in Asia, we decided to check out the Maharajah Jungle Trek to see if the Tigers were out and about. To our surprise, they were and we had the place practically to ourselves...

Grant liked watching the tigers. He kept pointing and saying,"Raarrrr!"

By now, it was a little after 3:00 and our last FP+ reservation for the day was at 3:15 in Dinoland USA at none other than Dinosaur! Once again, Scott and Pam stayed outside with Grant. They really don't like the jerkiness of this ride. We didn't need FP+ though. It was a complete walk on.
The ones of us that did ride loved it! Here's proof...

After Dinosaur, we backtracked through Asia to ride Expedition Everest one more time before calling it a day. It was still cold and starting to get very windy. We had all had enough and decided to head back to Caribbean Beach for the night.
Once we got back to our rooms, we headed back to Old Port Royale for some dinner before going back to our rooms to crash. Grant and I fell asleep while Brittany and Brooke were watching some TV...

Another day at Disney was in the books. It was flying by WAY too fast!!

Wednesday January 8, 2014

Today was a day I was really looking forward to on our trip - our first day at EPCOT! I love EPCOT more than everybody else in my family, so I rarely get to spend as much time there as I want to. Maybe one day...

Grant was up early and enjoying his breakfast while Brittany and I got ready...

I had a plan for today. I scheduled our FastPass+ reservations for Soarin' (1:35-2:35), The Seas with Nemo and Friends (10-11) and Spaceship Earth (11:50-12:50) knowing that I could change the latter two for something else if an unexpected long line showed it's ugly head. Anyway, my plan was to be at the park at rope drop and run to Test Track to get regular FastPasses and then jump in the stand by line (since we already had FP+ for Soarin'. So, as the bus pulled into EPCOT, I collected everyone's Key to the World and ran ahead toward Test Track while everyone else went through bag check and walked over to meet me.
Of course I stopped for a few shots along the way.

It was 9:10 or so and by the time I got our 8 FastPasses, everybody was arriving at TT. Our FP return time was 9:35-10:35 and we were eligible for another FP at 9:35. Everybody except Pam and Grant jumped in the single riders line because the stand by wait was already 30 minutes!
Single rider is the way to go on ANY attraction in WDW that offers it, but especially at Test Track. You still get to design your car, but you don't have to wait in near the line as you do in the stand by line.

I'll have to say, I didn't like the new Test Track as much as the old one. It was basically the same with a "Tron" twist with the neon lights everywhere. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great attraction and I still love it, I just don't understand why they changed it. ?
Anyway, by the time we got off TT, it was close to 9:30. I had the bright idea to grab everyone's Keys to the World again and run over to Soarin' to get FP so we could ride Soarin' twice! So, off I went!
In no time flat, I was back with another round of FastPasses for our group with a return time of 10:35-11:35.

Back at Test Track, Brooke and I were the only ones who decided to ride the second time, so we jumped in the FP line and we on our second spin in just a few minutes...

After our second ride on TT, it was time to head over to the Land pavilion to use our FastPasses for Soarin'!

We were all excited to ride this great attraction, even my parents. They had never ridden it before, but we had talked up the ride and had them excited! Grant was the only member in our group that wasn't tall enough to ride, so we had to split up. Brittany and I sat out with him first and let everyone else take the first ride.
A little family shot as we waited...

They were gone for what seemed like an eternity!
I talked about this briefly in an earlier post, but it took so long for them to ride (even though they had FP), that our FP return time was expiring and they weren't back from their ride yet. That's when I went up to the cast member and explained my dilemma. That's when he gave me the "child swap" FastPass paper ticket, so we were good to go!
Finally, they came around the corner and it was our turn!! Into the FP queue we headed. Our wait was long too...

After about 35 minutes or so, we exited Soarin' and rejoined our group. They looked like we did when we were waiting on them - tired of waiting! I don't know why this attraction takes so long, even with FP?? All I know is that there is no way I would EVER ride Soarin' without FP. Period.
After our experience, we ultimately decided to change our FP+ reservations from Soarin' to something else for later in the day. We didn't even care what we changed it to. We just knew we didn't want to wait 30-40 minutes in a FP line for something we'd already ridden that day. So, I got out my iPhone and moved some things around. Now, our FP+ reservations were as follows: The Seas with Nemo and Friends (10:00-11:00), Maelstrom (3:00-4:00) and Spaceship Earth (4:05-5:05).

We were on our way to Animal Kingdom!
Grant loved the buses! This was his first experience with public transportation since we live in a small town. He just looked around at all the people and enjoyed looking out the windows. As you parents know, a 16 month old does not like to sit still, so the grandparents took turns holding him on the bus...

Before long, we heard the Lion King music and we knew we had arrived at our first park of our trip! Scott, Pam, Brooke, Brittany and I were exited to see Festival of the Lion King before it closed down because it's one of our favorite shows at Walt Disney World. We had built it up to Karl and Kay, so we had them excited too. Animal Kingdom didn't exist the last time they were at WDW.
We were there and we headed toward the entrance, but not without stopping for a family pic...

Grant waited patiently and people watched as some of us had to go through the bag check...

Finally, everybody is through bag check! Let's go in the park already!!

Like always, the Disney cast members were outstanding. Grant had a "First Visit" button on his stroller, and everyone was commenting on it being his first trip to the World...

Ok, enough fooling around! On to our first attraction of the trip and the whole reason we came to Animal Kingdom - The Festival of the Lion King!
Which way do we go, Pops? (Pops is Grant's name for Scott)

Somebody needs a haircut... [foreshadowing]

Grant figured out the best route to FotLK so, off to Camp Minnie Mickey we went.
We passed the Tree of Life on our way, so I had to get the obligatory shot...

We arrived at Camp Minnie Mickey and headed toward the entrance to the Festival of the Lion King. Grant spotted Huey, Dewey, Louie and Daisy on the way.
Look, Aunt B! (Grant's name for Brooke)

"Dad, hurry up with those FastPass+ updates!! I'm getting impatient!"

Now that we had our FP+ reservations rearranged, we decided to stay in the Land and check out another one of our favorite attractions - one that we ALL could ride together - Living with the Land!

I know it's just a simple, slow boat ride, but I love it. It's such a good, classic attraction.

Grant enjoyed Living with the Land but he would enjoy our next attraction even more!
We left the Land pavilion and headed over toward the Seas with Nemo and Freinds. We had just enough time to make it for our FP+ reservations, so in we went.

Grant really enjoyed this attraction. It was awesome for me just to watch his little face light up as he looked in amazement at all that was going on in each scene in not only The Seas, but all the things we were riding. I definitely experienced Disney World through his eyes...
After our ride on Nemo, we decided to check out the rest of the Seas for a bit. We walked in to one of the rooms and a cast member was feeding the eels, so we stopped and watched for a minute...

By this time, it was getting close to lunch time and everyone was getting hungry. We decided to head toward World Showcase to get some lunch.

*****I should have mentioned this earlier in my report, but Brooke has a food allergy. She has to eat a gluten free diet. So, many of the places we ate at during the week depended on her, which was fine with all of us. She would look up different quick service restaurants on her phone and check out the menus. All of the table service restaurants we ate accommodated Brooke perfectly. The chef came out EVERY time and spoke with her about her options. It was a great experience. Disney scored a lot of points with us because of how they took care of Brooke during the week. *****

Brooke, also, is not a very adventurous eater. She saw on her phone that the Liberty Inn in the American Pavilion had gluten free options, so we headed that way. I wasn't thrilled about eating at the Liberty Inn, so I had other plans.
I love Mexican food. Brittany doesn't. I thought this was a great opportunity for me to get my Mexican fix while everyone else ate American. So, since we were going to be walking right by the Mexico Pavilion, I stopped at my favorite quick service spot - La Cantina!

I told everyone else to go ahead and I would get my food and meet them at the Liberty Inn. It worked out perfectly. I grabbed my food and walked, carrying my tray, all the way around to the American Pavilion. By the time I got there, everyone had their food and was sitting down at the table. We all got to enjoy our food together.
After lunch we saw that the next showing of The American Adventure was in 30 minutes. Perfect! We took a quick bathroom break and headed in to catch the show!

Grant was digging the colonial drummers...
(Click the picture below to check out Grant's dance moves)

After Grant finished his personal dance party, we headed into the American Adventure building. There was already quite a few people inside, so we gathered near the center of the room and waited... Just as I expected, the Voices of Liberty appeared in minutes and began singing. They were AWESOME. Such a nice little treat. It's one of those "extra" things that only Disney does that they don't have to do, but it adds so much to the experience.

As soon as they were finished singing, the doors opened and up the stairs we headed into the main theatre.
The show was fantastic as usual and so inspiring. I'm also a history buff, so I always love catching this show! Grant, on the other hand, only lasted a few minutes... He was OUT. In fact, he was so out of it, he stayed asleep as we put him back in his stroller (that never happens).

With about an hour until for next FP+ reservation, we decided to explore World Showcase for a bit...

Seems like the little guy has been pretty good on your trip!

I honestly like you don't understand why Soarin' is so slow. It's insane. We waited for it last May for what *said* was a 30 minute wait ended up being 60....ya NEVER again...won't do it without a fastpass reservation. It's just crazy. Can't wait to read more!

Feeling proud to be Americans, we took a left out of The American Adventure ready to explore the rest of World Showcase!
Don't get too excited... With me being the only lover of World Showcase, we pretty much just walked a lap. Having already walked past Mexico, Norway, China, Germany and Italy on the way to lunch, we circled around, without stopping in Japan, Morocco or France. We did stop for a few minutes in the United Kingdom pavilion, only because I made everyone stop. Next, we walked right past Canada (which was under a lot of construction) and walked back around to Mexico. I didn't even get the chance to get any pictures. I was petty disappointed, but this trip wasn't all about me. I just went with the flow and tried to make everyone happy.
Meanwhile, back in front of Mexico, Brooke suggested that we go inside and ride the "Mexican boat ride". Haha. Grant had just woken up from his nap so we headed inside and toward the Gran Fiesta Tour!

I love the inside of the Mexico pavilion! We looked around for a little bit and enjoyed the atmosphere. Brittany and I told her rest of our group how we had eaten here at the San Angel Inn on our anniversary trip back in 2011.

The Gran Fiesta Tour had a minimal wait, as it usually does, so we jumped in line and were on the ride in a matter of minutes.
There isn't much to this ride, but it's fun and Grant really liked it!

After our ride with the Three Caballeros, I checked the time and it was just after 3:00. Perfect! It was time to use our FP+ for Maelstrom! If I had to pick, Norway might just be my favorite pavilion in all of World Showcase.

Maelstrom is a good ride, but it's pretty short. It seems you're getting on the ride and then you blink and you are exiting. Oh well, I still enjoy it and make a point to ride it on every trip to WDW.

We had about 30 minutes or so until our next (and last) FP+ reservation of the day at Spaceship Earth, so we decided to take a scenic route back to the front of the park...

Nothing says EPCOT like the Monorail. I love trying to get different shots of it gliding through the park.

I am going in September for 2 weeks with my parents Husband and My daughter who will be 16 months to the day we leave. Do you have any suggestions?> I noticed your stroller that is the same one I was looking at buying to bring Did you like it? Did you have any issues with size when having to fold it up? Thank you! You have a beautiful family!

September is the PERFECT time to go to WDW in my opinion. My wife and I went back in September 2011 and there were ZERO crowds.
The only suggestion or advice would be to just go with the flow. It's not going to be like it used to be. It's going to be awesome to see things through her little eyes. Just take your time and with 2 weeks, you should be able to do everything you want. Allow your parents to watch your little one (if they offer) and take some time with your husband to do some adult things a couple of nights.
Our stroller was perfect. It was super lightweight and folded up really easily.
Have a great trip!

It was close to 4:15 and we were heading toward Spaceship Earth to use our last FastPass+ for the day. Like always, I had to stop and get some shots of SSE...

Grant was excited! He was so alert and couldn't wait to see what was around each corner. Dark rides were definitely his favorite.

We had dinner reservations at 7:00 over at Hollywood Studios, so we had a little time before we needed to leave EPCOT. We didn't get to ride Mission Space earlier, and my dad had never ridden it, so we headed back to give it a whirl...

Brittany, Brooke, Karl and I were the only ones who had the "stomach" for Mission Space - Orange. It was a fun ride, but once per trip is plenty for me...
By now, everyone was getting a little hungry, so we decided to head on over to DHS. As we were about to head toward the main exit, I suggested that we should take a boat over to DHS. Everyone agreed, so we made our way toward the International Gateway and boarded a boat that was just about to take off.
After a few stops, we arrived at Hollywood Studios! Like all the other Disney parks, DHS takes on a different personality and looks awesome at night.

We made our way down the lit up streets of old Hollywood until we arrived at our destination - the Sci-Fi Dine In Theater!

For those of you who don't know about the Sci-Fi, it is themed like an old drive in movie theater from the 50's. The food doesn't get the best reviews, but it's tough to beat the atmosphere.
We got over to Sci-Fi about 30 minutes early, and we had to wait. Grant and I played around out in front of the restaurant to pass the time...

Finally, our pager went off and it was time to eat! Our ADR was for 7:00, the same time DHS was closing that night, so needless to say, the restaurant was pretty empty.
We all enjoyed our meals and had fun watching the silly old science fiction movies...

After we finished eating, we took our time heading for the exit, just enjoying an empty park. We got to the bus stop just as a Caribbean Beach bus was pulling off... We were bummed! But minutes later, another one came around the corner and we were "home" and tucked into our beds in no time.
Another day down at Disney.
What would tomorrow hold? Stay tuned to find out...

The plan for today was to sleep in as late as possible and then head to Downtown Disney for a little while. By this point in the week, we were all pretty worn out and needed a little extra rest, plus our first FastPass+ reservations weren't until 2:15.
By 10:30, we were all up and off to Downtown Disney we went to do some shopping and to grab an early lunch.
Upon arriving, we hit the Christmas store first. We picked up a few ornaments and then headed over toward the World of Disney store. I think I could spend hours in this place! We all got a few items and had everything shipped back to the gift shop at our resort. By now, we were all getting hungry and decided to grab some lunch. We let Brooke chose where we would eat since she has the gluten allergy and she is the pickiest eater of our group. So we walked all over DTD looking at menus and finally she settled on Pollo Campero. This was BY FAR the worst meal of our trip. I couldn't even finish my lunch and Babycakes was just as bad. People rave about that place all the time, but the cupcake I had (which was only a couple of bites) tasted like cardboard. It was horrible.
Disappointed and still hungry, we headed out of DTD and toward the Magic Kingdom! Even though it was overcast, the day was already starting to look up!
When we got to the MK, we headed down Main Street and toward Adventureland. Our first stop was one of my all time favorites - Pirates of the Caribbean.
After Pirates, we hit Big Thunder, Country Bears and Haunted Mansion before heading to Fantasyland by way of the new Tangled bathroom area path.

Our first stop in Fantasyland was our first FP+ reservation of the day - Peter Pan's Flight. This ride was becoming one of Grant's favorites as the week went on.
After Peter Pan, we walked across the pathway to It's a Small World. Grant seemed to really like this ride. He likes music, so he was dancing and looking around at all the little dolls in all the rooms...

As we exited Small World, we noticed it was pouring rain outside! We dug our ponchos out of the backpack and put them on as we planned where we would head next. Several people had to take a quick bathroom break so Grant and I waited under the over hang at the Pinocchio Village Haus.

After everyone returned, we ventured out in the rain (which had lightened up) and headed for the Carrousel. This was, by far, Grant's favorite ride! He loved it, so Brittany, Brooke, Grant and I jumped in line and were on the attraction after waiting only a minute.

When we got off the Carrousel, the rain had completely stopped, so we packed up our ponchos and headed through New Fantasyland toward Tomorrowland and our next FP+ attraction of the day - Space Mountain.
Space is my favorite attraction at the Magic Kingdom and probably my favorite in all of Walt Disney World.
When we got to the back of Tomorrowland, Karl, Brittany, Brooke and I headed in to the Space Mountain queue.

After we did our Magic Band swap and Brittany, Brooke and I rode Space again, we all hopped on the TTA Peoplemover for a spin around Tomorrowland. Next, we hit our last FP+ attraction of the day - Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin! This was another of all our favorites, Grant included!
In we went, passing the herd of people in the stand by queue, to help Buzz defeat the evil emperor Zurg!

Grant and I pretty much killed it, saving the galaxy in the process.

After Buzz Lightyear, we rode a few more attractions, got a quick snack over at Sleepy Hollow and made our way toward Main Street to find a good spot for the Main Street Electrical Parade. I like to watch the nighttime parade on Main Street with the castle as a backdrop, just my personal preference.
It was about 30 minutes until the start of the parade, but Main Street was already packed!
We took this time to have some fun and take a few pictures...

It wasn't long until the lights were dimmed in the Magic Kingdom and the Main Street Electrical Parade was about to begin! I grabbed Grant and made sure we had a great spot where he could see everything. I didn't want him to miss any of the characters, colorful floats or dancers.
As soon as he heard the music, he started moving up and down, dancing in my arms. Then the first float came around the corner and his little face was filled with amazement...

As soon as the last float passed us, we headed out of the crowded MK.

Once we passed under the train station, we hopped the Resort Monorail over to Disney's Polynesian Resort! We had dinner reservations at 'Ohana at 8:30 and we wanted to watch Wishes from the beach. As soon as we got off the Monorail at the Poly, we went directly down to the pool and beach area to catch Wishes!

Wishes was great, but nothing like watching it from inside the Magic Kingdom.
As soon as Wishes was over we headed upstairs to check in at 'Ohana! We were excited to eat here again and so was the rest of our group because we had talked about it so much since we ate there on our anniversary trip back in 2011.
Like always, we had to wait a little while for 'Ohana. I don't know what it is about this restaurant, but we didn't get seated until at least 8:50. Oh well, it's worth the wait!

Everyone enjoyed their meals and the live entertainment! 'Ohana, we will definitely be back!

After our meal, we all were stuffed. We probably should have walked back to Caribbean Beach, but we decided against that. We were going to take the Monorail back to the MK and then take a bus back to CBR, but the resort Monorail stopped running an hour after park closing. So, the Polynesian cast members directed everyone to the Poly bus stop and told us that buses were being sent to pick us up and take us to our respective resorts. That was nice, but I think Disney makes enough money to make sure ALL transportation options are available for THEIR RESORT GUESTS eating at THEIR RESTAURANTS no matter what time it is. I mean, what would it cost to run the Monorail one more hour to make sure everyone got back to their resort easily??
Ok, sorry for the rant... Another day at Disney was in the books. The week was flying by WAY too fast.

Next Installment: Friday January 10...
