For anyone looking for the final answer on this:
I spoke to a (knowledgeable) CM this past week. The Maelstrom mural couldn't be saved. (I can't say for sure, but it sounded like it was printed on vinyl and attached to the wall.) As such, they spent several days taking hi-resolution scans of both the main mural and the map on the opposite side of the queue, and submitted them to the Archives.
The attraction was recorded head to toe on behalf of the archives. Several notable physical items were indeed removed for keeping. As such, they spent several days taking hi-resolution scans of both the main mural and the map on the opposite side of the queue, and submitted them to the Archives.
I'd imagine it was removed and relocated like "The Prologue and the Promise" from Horizons
Wikipedia says it's in Disney offices. Doesn't say specifically where though.Forgive me it this has already been posted, but where is this currently displayed? Would love to see it in person.
It was.The Malestrom mural is phenomenal. A true piece of Walt Disney World/Epcot history. I hope it was preserved via digital photographs.
I always thought this guy looked like a hidden Jim Henson.
That would depend a good deal on one's understanding of what constitutes art.I never really thought of it as a great work of art, is it?
