My friend just told me starting next week, Maelstrom will be closing at 8pm and will not be open for Extra Magic Hours. But China and France will be open until 12pm on Extra Magic Hours.

Yup, it opened on schedule on May 25. I got to ride it on the 25th, and I must say, nothing on the ride had changed. The only thing that changed was they weren't making you wait for the movie, they were letting guests exit to the left. :sohappy:

It looked like some minor paint work, a touch up here and there, but besides that, I couldn't tell you. I have been on that ride many times (once all by myself, that was pretty cool), and I saw no difference this time. There was no work done to any of the polar bears, no work done to the trolls, not even any work done to the ride system, the boat back up was still bumpy, and the drop still shook the whole boat, nothing (that I could point out). So to answer your question, it looked like nothing was done.

Oh thank goodness! The worst part of that ride was having to stand there and wait for the group before you to be done with the movie. Talk about feeling trapped, especially when there were people that did not know that was the way the ride worked and they got all complainy standing around. That just did not make the wait any more fun.:brick:

A little OT, but has anyone else ever noticed that those polar bears look anorexic?

My friend had to wait last week - did they open a new hallway?

But my friend also got YOMD's landyards, so maybe they used that as a reason to corner and hold people.

To Clarify...Maelstrom's Show timing after the ride has not changed. The poster must have hit the timing just right. The exit doors to the theater do remain open during the theater loading so you can bypass the film, but only at the load/unload time. I went on the ride post-rehab and the film timing ran just as before.

When I went on Maelstrom on the 25th, the fibre optics in the ceiling in the troll scene were not working. Maelstrom also opened late, after the rest of World Showcase.

Wow they didnt do anything you could notice to the ride? I guess the update to el rio in mexico took all the budget for world showcase.:lookaroun I wonder why they didnt do anything, I like the ride but a few updates wouldnt have hurt.

I really like it too. Yeah, it's a bit dated but it's still very informative and for a mountain boy that doesn't get out much it's really neat to see beautiful footage of other countries and how different(or similiar) their cultures are from ours.

I love the Maelstrom, but it closing at 8pm really does nothing to upset my Epcot plans. It just means I grab a fast pass for the other rides and wait in line at Maelstrom.

No biggie....
