Pick a Mac because they are siblings with these guys!
Because the Mac is bi-operational...that's right...it goes both ways!

Agreed! Finally got it working on one of my computers. I had been an ATI guy and the driver support just wasn't there in the version I was trying to install. Got it working and loved it.mkt said:Linux
I love this one!Beyond that there really isn't much for me to say, so I'll post some of my favorite Mac/PC pictures....

But I can't build it from the ground up and overclock it or upgrade it. Not to mention the engineering software I have to run for work absolutely crawls on a Mac if it runs at all. Also I have never really like the feel of a Mac. I can't explain it but for some reason I just can't get comfortable with it. I always feel like I am a square peg trying to fit in a round hole.
Newegg is a great site. I will be spending a little over 2 grand there at the end of the month for my new build. The only thing I wish they would do is get a little more into the case mods and liquid cooling market.this is a tough and very personal choice.
i agree Dull's, opps, i mean Dell's customer support is an oxymoron.
i have never used a Mac but would like to, i'm afraid if i did i would want to replace all my pc's
a small thing that may not affect you too much is software for the Mac can cost more, sometimes a lot more.
here's something else to confusal you. replacing a harddrive is easy, installing windows is easy too (Dull's website has good instructions on this). you can look up your service tag on the internet to get some info on your pc, it probably takes an ide harddrive but you would want to check.
newegg has HDD's and is my fav site to buy from.
Especially for us Floridians as we have to pay sales tax at Tigerdirect.Yea, newegg is great. I just used it to upgrade my old Dell XPS. Tigerdirect is good too but newegg is much better, it just had more of the things I needed.

Right, or Parallels Desktop. I love Macs, they're absolutely gorgeous. However, if you open them up for any reason, it voids EVERYTHING.Dual boot with Intel machines. Autocad works well on a MBP. :animwink:

forgot to ask, what are you building?
I am not using AutoCadd. I am using VIEW which is a piece of software written exclusively for designing and engineering wood trusses. They test only on PC's and offer zero support for Mac's. I tried running it on our IT guys decked out G5 he usees for ProTools and it barely ran no matter what we did to it.Dual boot with Intel machines. Autocad works well on a MBP. :animwink:
If you are going to upgrade wait till after the 22nd of this month. Intel will be coming out wit the new 1333 MHz FSB chips so all of the 1066 FSB chips will be taking a major price drop. The Q6600 quad core will drop all the way from about $520 to $260. The E6850 3.0 GHz with a 1333 FSB will also come in at $260. From the earliest reports that I have heard E6850 can be pushed somewhere in the realm of 4-5 GHz on air.i want to upgrade my son's pc from a a64 4000+ to an intel C2D, they are so reasonable: E6420 2.13G 1066 4MB cache $186.00 and free shipping! and there is so much headroom for OCing. even the Kentsfield core is reasonably priced. all he would need is the proc, board and graphics card. easily do it for grand and then he can play Oblivion cranked up!
finally intel came out with some great processors. i remember the Prescott, it turned your pc into a convection oven that could cook a small chicken! most of or systems are getting old: P4 3.4 Northwood cores.
lately i have been using Corsair's nautilus500 for liquid cooling. it is so easy to install, not expensive.

For my build I will more than likely go with the Q6600 quad core vs the new E6850. The E6850 can be pushed a little farther than the quad core but by the time it makes any difference there will be more software utilizing multiple cores so the quad core will have a little more longevity. For the rest of the build I'll be using a DFI 680i motherboard, OCZ 2GB reaper 1066 memory, (6) Hitachi 160 mb HD 4 in RAID 0 and 2 in RAID 5, XFX GeForce 8800GTX 768MB video, Coarsair 620W PS, EK water blocks on the CPU and GPU, DVD and CD burners with light scribe, and about 1/2 a dozen SilenX fans all crammed into a Thermaltake Kandalf LCS case.forgot to ask, what are you building?
Agreed, I generally buy all my hardware from newegg, but as far as case modding and the like I use Xoxide.Newegg is a great site.
