M:S disappointing

I agree. Although I had read how cool this attraction (Spidey) was, and that I knew the basic concept, I never imagined what was in store for me (no internet at the time, living on a different continent etc) and it was a BLAST! Something you never saw before! Great 3D, amazing effects (were you sure all was working when you rode it the first time? :) ), sensory overload with the Finale, good queue line also...

As for Splash Mountain, I also was disappointed. I read so much about it, and I found old AAs, some cheap sets, and not the most exciting ride in the world. Still, it was the best flume ride I've been on after POTC, but I expected more from Disney (we don't have SM at Disneyland Resort Paris). For example I was blown away by Spaceship Earth or Caroussel of Progress, from which I hadn't read so much before.

But I am speaking about my first experiences. Now, I appreciate those rides much more.

I know Spiderman is a very popular ride. So, if you enjoy it, that's great! However, it is just not in my opinion that amazing (no pun intended!).:)

The biggest problem with spidey is the lack of a cohesive story. It seems that the designers were so excited with the technology that they created, that they got ahead of themselves. The story if I remember correctly has something to do with the Statue of Liberty being stolen? Not only is this kinda dumb (even for a superhero), it is not presented well. Thus, the riders are thrown into an experience that they do not understand. In turn, we are supposed to be amazed by shiny lights, pretty colors, and some less than stellar effects.

The entire ride, I was like...Oh, look there is fire over there! :snore: Was that supposed to look 3d?...Everything happens so quickly that you can't even notice what's going on!

Personally, I am more impressed with a great story and aura then a shiny new simulator (which is why ToT is a far superior thrill ride). I believe that the technology used in Spiderman could bring about some great things! However, its potential is not being fully utilized currently.

Remember, this is just my opinion...If you are an avid spidey fanatic I don't mean to upset you!:)

I've put some thought into this (read: little), but regardless, due to the nature of Mission: Space, I can't think of a practical method of hiding the ride mechanics. It's not like Star Tours where you're in a stationary capsule.

The ride capsules in M:S actually shouldn't really be concealed. According to the story, you are TRAINING to go to Mars. Thus, the entire thing is a simulation.

I'm still confused about this. I originally thought this, but when I visited the attraction recently, I didn't see anything that had to do with this.

i.e. "They have one thing that you haven't. Training."

Can anyone cite the script that says we are training??

(And this is Disney. Give us the un-real REAL thing!! :D )

Well, you are at the ISTC (International Space Training Center) and you are informed that you are "here for flight training" (pre-show movie w/ Sinise).

I have to say my favorite thing in the whole pavilion are the cards from space. Really, lol.

My favorite part of the pavillion is the way it looks on the outside...

Regardless, of what people may think of the ride itself, the outside of M:S is pure Disney Magic.:)

Very true. I just wish they'd spent the same amount of time and money on the queue.

I also love the design used for the outside of the building. It looks very sleek while still managing to look "old-school" Disney. Oh and btw, Gen. Grizz, don't feel bad about not remembering the training line, the only reason I knew the answer was that a guy asked the same thing at training a few days ago. Personally, I think the "Welcome to Mars!" line at the end of the flight (said by Sinise while still in the trainer) causes a lot of the confusion, if he had said something about a successful training excercise instead it would probably be much less confusing.

It's still not bad though, certainly better than a lot over at Universal. The rotating centrifuge is a very cool touch (and it's one hell of a prop - look at the size of that thing), the lunar rover's interesting and the ride control area (where the cms are) was cleverly incorporated into the theme of the ride. Now I'm not saying the queue couldn't be better, but it's not bad.

Yeah it's not BAD but I expected a much better one than basically one room.

But compairing it to Universal's queues yeah it is alot better than the ones in USF but I think that most of the queues in IOA are better than Mission Space's queue. For instance I think that Spider-Man, Ripsaw Falls, Bilge-Rat Barges, and Dueling Dragons all have MUCH better queues than M:S.

Heck there's so much backstage space, create a new ride or at least extend the queue. Please...Space Mountain's queue is MUCH more entertaining and welcome.

You have the music going, the hollograms, the pictures of nebula, etc. . . Oh well, eh?

I think that's the point of the ride! You're in Spiderman's universe! He's not flying and crawling in slow motion! They made it the most exciting experience possible, it is no Pirates of the Caribbean! Still, as you said, you cannot see and understand it all the first time (but oes that mean that you can't enjoy it?), and for that, you can go on over and over again and still see new things each time.

Another reason besides the fact that it is Spidey and it has to move quickly, is the fact that all that technology is new, and there are many tricks in the sets. So it has to move quickly, and distract you with sfx and lights, because otherwise you would perhaps concentrate on HOW IT WORKS and that would ruin the experience.

Well, as you said, everyone has its own opinion. But for me, it achieves the same goal as Mission:Space: deliver a unique experience that you can't find anywhere else, and that touches all your senses for a physical/emotionnal reaction.

The point of the ride is disorient you so you have no Idea what is going on? I like to understand why things are happening (a cohesive story that Spiderman lacks!).

A good thrill ride can happen fast, and still make sense. Frankly, just showing some poorly animated villlains on screen yelling stuff that you can't understand is just dumb. There is no imagination in that! The technology has great potential. Unfortunately, Spidey doesn't utilize it.

If you like Spiderman...that is awesome! :)Ride it as many times as you want! However, you won't find me wasting my money to try it again.
