Express Service NOT airline specific

I see where this is being hashed out one way or the other so I'll just add my situation to the thread which lays out how the airline and shuttle work together but are not dependent on each other.

Things fell into place for an unplanned trip May 4 through May 10. In talking with the ressie CM about setting up the resort I asked if SouthWest had joined the group of five announced airlines for DME? "Not at this time.", was the reply. Well, I didn't expect they would as they do strive to cut costs to keep the fares low. Too bad I was arriving on the 4th one day ahead of the startup.

"But we can take you back to the airport with DME", he said. "But SouthWest isn't in the group of five. What gives?", I asked. "Oh, we just don't need to send you the special tags because your luggage will travel with you to the airport. When you get there you will get your luggage and checkin to SouthWest as you normally would."

The official Disney FAQ for DME is at http://disneymeetings.disney.go.com/dwm/services/detail?name=DMEAttendeesFAQDetailPage#C2Q4

Even though the web page is discussing Group Sales my ressie CM didn't have any problem setting this up for me on my room reservation. All he needed was the airline name and departing flight number.

My only concern with DME initially was a bus making the rounds and stopping at several resorts before getting me to my resort. Inbound I believe I WOULD prefer a different mode of transportation. But outbound I could car less about a few stops before the getting to the airport.

Just an FYI about the DME routing:

Only one of the routes will have a maximum of 4 stops. All the other routes will have a maximum of only 3 stops. Now, you figure in averages, and the AVERAGE person will getting off at the 2nd stop... which means they only have to sit through one stop. And since DME handles luggage separatly on the inbound trip, it's a very quick stop.

No, they can't.

Airlines participating in Disney's Magical Express:
• American Airlines
• Continental Airlines
• Delta Air Lines
• Song
• United Airlines
• Ted (from United)
Others may be added later.

None added yet though. Remember, this is a brand new program.

Yes, any airline can participate in the Magical Express... just not all airlines can participate in the resort luggage part (where they take your luggage to your resort and you don't even have to check in) TRUST ME, we called and asked a CM about it... already got my m-express passes for my luggage and i'm flying Southwest Airlines... not on the list above is it? GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT THRAWN!

It does not matter what airline you are flying. Your specially tagged INBOUND luggage from Orlando International Airport to your Walt Disney World Resort will bypass baggage claim, and be delivered to your room. This service is just like the current service used for the Disney Cruise Line.

OUTBOUND from WDW to OIA is the only time where non-participating airline guests will need to bring thier luggage onto the motorcoach. Participating airlines will have satellite locations at the resorts to check luggage and get boarding passes.

I can't believe I'm doing this but I'm going to stick up for Thrawn here. :lookaroun

When DME first started advertising, there was tons of confusion. When we were planning our trip, I did lots of research and on a site that is unofficial but we all still read it, it said that if you are NOT flying on a particpating airline you had to carry your own luggage to the bus. I even talked to a CM and they had no clue at the time how it was going to work, so a lot of people got their information from other web sites.

JP has been giving some excellent information on this and I have choosen to believe him, because he seems to know what he is talking about. I don't think everyone needs to jump on Thrawn for stuff that he has read and believes to be right.

Thrawn.............on the other hand you might want to give some thought to bending a little. JP and Invero know what they are talking about. They both always have good information. Keep an open mind.

There are 4 routes: AK, EC, MK, and DD.

AK: All-Stars, Coronado, AKL (5 resorts). All luggage is being delivered to Celebrity Hall for All-Stars. (KNOW ALL OF THIS IS A DEFINITE)

MK: Poly, Grand, WL, Fort, Contemp (makes sense)

EC: Y&B, Boardwalk, CB, Pop
DD: OKW, Saratoga, FQ, and Riverside (not sure of where CB and Pop will fit in).

Brent - Where did you get that routing information from? I only ask because all DME material I've seen says that the buses will make a max of four stops, and the Mears driver (who's a trainer) I talked with said that there were going to be 6 new routes, 5 of which had 3 stops and 1 of which had 4 stops. At the time, he didn't know exact routing, so my routing was just my best guess.

Hey there everyone, Thanks as always to JPVonDrake and Invero for some great information. I know Invero is a CM and I have every reason to believe JP is as well, although I havent met him in person as of yet. JP has given us some really great information on a variety of topics to assist members of this board. It is always greatly appreciated. Belle

Brent I don't buy your routing. Disney said no more than 4 stops. If it's the offical routing why are 2 resorts missing?

I wonder how luggage delivery will work for FW guests who included their tent with their checked luggage.

Have to agree with Belle here. Invero and JP always provide us with great info. I wasn't surprised to read on this thread that JP's info is coming directly from Disney's information database. It always had that very complete, official air about it and has always been dead -on accurate.

I'm happy to hear that Disney will handle your incoming luggage no matter what airline you use. Much like Thrawn, everything I had read prior to this thread said you'd have to get your own luggage and bring it to the DME buses if you were on a non-member airline. This new info works great for me as I prefer to fly JetBlue down from NYC.

Thanks Guys!

What resorts did I forget?

I'm a CM too and the class I've gone to and everything I've seen is that there is 4 loops.

Of course, this is two weeks old, so it's probally changed since then.

The only region that I know for sure is the one that I said I knew. Trust me on that one unless something changes and it may. Numbers are staggering for the number of guests that are expected to use it during the first week.

The others are speculation on my part as far as the resorts included. Everything I've been told by our DME managers is that there are 4 zones.

Brent - I know you know your stuff, especially when it comes to resorts and normally I'd trust anything you tell me, without question. But it's just interesting that the class taught you that about DME though, since its own literature says no more than 4 stops.

I guess only time will tell!
