Love Bugs?

I know Sept is typically Love Bug season.. I've tried not to think about it too much.. but now I am. What should we expect? I know with driving we will need to clean them off our car as soon as we park to avoid issues with the paint. We are on property from 9/15-9/27 and in parks 9/17-9/27

I live nearby and try to get them off the car asap. The trick is to carry 2 things in your car- a spray bottle of water and a box of dryer sheets (i.e. Bounce, but any old brand will do, scented or unscented). Spritz the part of the car where the bug landed, then the bug wipes right off.
Thankfully, lovebugs don't sting or bite.

they are not annoying or anything like that, but last year in sept we stayed at CBR and they were all over the inside of our room. They were on the beds, curtains, even in the bathroom, all because the weather stripping under the door was gone. So check you doors when you check in to make sure they are completely sealed.

Okay, this thread has been making me nervous. I'm going to be driving a rental car down from Chicago in the middle of September, and the last thing I want is to deal with bugs that will take the paint off! I also don't want to have to wax a rental. I'm hoping your solution works, because it seems to be the most convenient!

Also, driving from Chicago, where do you think I'll need to start checking to spritz these guys off the car? Do they start in Florida, or do they have them farther north too?

Love bugs became the first indicator to me that we were indeed making the journey to Orlando. We'd drive down and around Gainseville/Ocala, they'd get real bad. As a kid, I loved it! My dad, not so much. One of the gas stations going into Orlando has a washing station just for the love bugs that get imbedded in the grill/paint of your car. Totally harmless. I'd run around catching them. Easy doings, they had other things on their minds...
