My guess - and I think I read this somewhere too - is EARLY September. We were down there at the very end of August last year and they were already EVERYWHERE.

Actually, they usually arrive TWICE a year!!! They also appear in May, although I saw a few last month.

Some years are better than others; last year wasn't too bad up here.

Love Bugs are a type of bug that is almost Florida Specific. The bugs hatch 2 times a year, May and September.

Their life span is not long, a week minimun 4 weeks max. They're sole purpose is to mate. If you drive through Florida during "Love Bug Season" you will find them all over your car. You will often find two dead on your winshield together.

They have one reason to live, and that's to mate with each other! Thus, the reason they're usually killed in 2's!

They are attracted to car engine fumes, so they're around the interstates and anywhere cars are!

They are a pain when it comes to getting them off of your car, and they can really do a number to a paint job!

They are already out in North Central Florida this year, but we didn't have a cold winter to kill the eggs... so they'll probably be bad come September!

Just thought I would share what I know!

"Love Bugs" are bugs that fly and at the same time....:animwink: Mate. I saw them last May by the pool at the All-Star Music. I had never seen them before and they were EVERYWHERE! I don't know their real "scientific" name but since they're mating, they're known as the "Love Bugs". :)

Wow....that was the exact same thing I was going to say. I saw them last May at All Star Music by the pool. My friend and I had commented on them and someone next to us looked at us and said "well i guess you're not natives" and them proceeded to tell us all about them.

....the story goes, Love bugs were brought here from South America, they were used in an experiment at U of F,it seems love bugs eat mosquitos larvae and some were released in North Central Florida to test if it would effect mosquito populations. Well, they have no natural predators here and quickly the population grew out of control. They also don't eat much mosquito larvae, it seems they prefer to eat other things when not in a lab. They are fairly acidic and leave pitmarks in your paint if not removed quickly enough,

Okay, do they swarm all over the parks?? I'm heading down in September and I don't want my birthday celebrations to be marred by getting hit in the face by bugs flying and mating. Ewwwwwww.

not to be rude, or anything..

but can anyone spell "Chit Chat"

Is this about the lovebugs at WDW??

I believe this question refers specifically to the love bugs at WDW. So I don't think it should go in Chit Chat since technically it's WDW talk, but I think (correct me if I'm wrong) it should be in general discussion.

They don't swarm, they just lazily fly around mating. They don't bother you except for the fact that they are a nuisance because of their numbers. They are a booger to get off your car (grill area) and they will eat the paint off your car if you leave them on there too long.

I hate those bugs...last August (late)...we were waiting for MK to open, and there were so many bugs in the air...it was just uncomfortable...not only did we have to deal with standing in the sun (humidity was high, no breeze) in a crowded area; but you also had bugs flying and bumping into you...it was annoying...gotta love Florida....

I remember when I would work outside, especially at the gazebo behind Minnie's house and the Barnstormer, that little kids and some adults would think they were bees and run from them. I can't tell you how many times I had to explain to them they were just love bugs and wouldn't sting them.

I miss FL, but I don't miss the love bugs!
