Looks cold....

I've been watching the weather in Orlando (I've got a trip coming up), and it looks less than warm down there.

What is the cutoff temperature for the water parks (at what point do they not open them for the day)?

I was hoping for some warm temperatures for my trip but as it sits, it won't be much warmer than where I am from.

Oh well, theres still no place I would rather be....:hammer:

One of the water parks is always closed in the winter for refurb. I believe this year it is TL. The other one is always open regardless of temperature. I suppose if it were below freezing, and they has some problems with the plumbing or safety they'd close, but that ain't gonna happen [I was wrong! - see below]. I was there four years ago and it was like 49, and both water parks were open (this was after the annual refurb).

I leave next Wed and I am a little worried. Its gonna be cold. I want to warm up from the 8 degrees it was this morning.

A little cold shouldn't worry you - with all the running around and things to do you wont feel it that bad (unless your in shorts and tshirt!!!).

Water park wise I don't see them closing. The pool in TL is heated so it might actually be quite pleasent. I've been in a heated, outdoors pool (not at WDW) when it's snowing and it was quite comfortable.

I've also been to DLP when it was around -3c every day and it certainly didn't spoil the fun - just made your face very cold on BTMRR!

A water park is always open during the winter. Right now Typhoon Lagoon is closed for its annual refurb, so Blizzard Beach is usually open from 10-5. Blizzard Beach was closed earlier in the fall/winter and TL was open then.

I have also been in a heated pool while it was snowing (at a ski lodge) and was fine... but I had a towel and warm fleece cover-up within reach. I'm not sure I would want to be going down a water slide, or even walking around a water park, if it's chilly.

The wind chill here tonight will bring the temps into the low 20s, which means it'll be in the 30s at WDW. I know I would want to be bundled up if I were standing around waiting for Illuminations!

Wow! I never heard of that happening before! It is supposed to be really cold tonight and tomorrow, though. It might dip below freezing tonight even.

But next week is supposed to be warmer, so I think the worst will be over by the time the OP gets there. (Fingers crossed for you, guy!)

It has been standard for probably as long as there has been a water park that it doesn't open when the temps reach a certain low. I'm sure if we look back a year or so there are posts about them closing & the luau show at poly being cancelled due to the extreme cold.:wave:

I remember when I first visited WDW in January. There I was, happy to wear shorts and tshirt or go swimming and all the CM's were in thick coats! I guess it depends what your used to.

I was here last January as a guest when it was rather cold. My mom & I thought everyone here was crazy for wearing the heavy winter jackets, but after being here for 5 months, Im starting to think that its cold & Im gonna need my heavy coat soon. Last year, I was wearing shorts & eating dole whip getting crazy looks from CMs. It really is what you're used to & whether or not "your blood has thinned."

My mom & I thought everyone here was crazy for wearing the heavy winter jackets, but after being here for 5 months, Im starting to think that its cold & Im gonna need my heavy coat soon. Last year, I was wearing shorts & eating dole whip getting crazy looks from CMs. It really is what you're used to & whether or not "your blood has thinned."

We went this past October and one day the high was about 60 with 20mph winds. I wore 3 layers and jeans. My husband wore shorts and a t-shirt and insisted all day that he wasn't cold. We're both from Wisconsin (BTW, I'm from West Allis too!!! Grew up around 124th St. and National Ave.) but that was just cold to me. I guess it's just what you're willing to put up with, temperature wise.

Today, is another story. We woke up to -15 F this morning (wind chills around -30 F). NO ONE EVER gets use to that!!!! No school for the kids yesterday or today. Yesterday, the kids and I were wishing we could just go to Disney for the day - no matter what the temperature is!!!!

They are predicting a record low for this date tonight (17 in NE FL, so around 27 at WDW) with winds, so it will be cold standing around.

I remember my SIL (who lives in Chicago) visiting WDW when the temp was in the low 20s, and she was cold. The lowest temperature I remember for NE FL was 11 in 1983, the same time she was at WDW. (She stopped here on the way)

My parents were complaining about the cold in Florida last night. They grew up in the U.P. and lived there and in Wisconsin most of their lives, but haven't enjoyed a midwest winter in some time. Their blood has definitely "thinned". I'd trade the cold there for the cold here any day. I'm just counting down until I get on the plane to see them next month and maybe can start thawing out! My DH and I were watching the thermostat in the van on the way in to work plummet as we were driving in. It started at 12 as we pulled out of the garage and was -12 by the time we got to where I work.

I bet these temps will make riding Test Track quite a refreshing experience!

Also make Expedition Everest more "realistic".

I remember being on my CP during late January and being bundled up witha scarf, hat and gloves in the am and guests running in wearing tee shirts and shorts, scolding me and saying that I didn't know what cold was. I had to laugh bc I am from northern PA and we are enjoying a briks one degree evening here tonight!
