WDW is testing long range RFID today at least at AK and maybe other parks. WOW, that is a Potter swatter. Some of you still think Disney is not giving you anything new.

Guess I should have been more clear. If this has been discussed on another thread please redirect.

The current testing is to track your movement. In a shop and how long. Where you eat and for how long. What attraction and how long. And so on. You do not touch your band or card. The system tracks anywhere WDW wants to put a long range tracker. I may be the least techie person on this board but I am told WDW could cover the entire park if they chose. I'm sure some IT folks can elaborate better than I. I only know this is happening because a friend is doing part of the testing today. I live in Central Florida but I do not go near any theme park during the summer crush.

The test is real today. My comments must have needed this.;)

This happened forever - with humans monitoring you. It's called Industrial Engineering - you can go to college for it.

It would not surprise me in the least if they really are doing this. This kind of tracking can provide a lot of information that I would think Disney management would find very useful. And if anyone doubts that this can be done check out http://www.openbeacon.org/ . This project has been used to track the exact location of 100's of people at various conferences. This is something that was setup by volunteers in a temporary location, using in expensive off the shelf hardware and open source software.

Just my opinion but I find it very intrusive. Yes it is happening in our everyday lives and I find that just as intrusive. Can I do anything about it? No. Its just another indication of where we are going as a society. I will try to not get to political about it and keep it the context of WDW. We all pay good money to escape the outside world to leave real world problems behind for a few days. That's why its called a vacation. Some of you will say " I don't care if they track me....I have nothing to hide" but its a slippery slope, your privacy is being taken away piece by piece. You wont care until they want to know what you are doing in the comfort of your own home. I too am no techie and they probably are doing that as well. So most of us shrug our shoulders and say "so what"....well I don't like being manipulated....my visit more and more is manufactured. Its no longer going to be a organic experience. Where I do as I wish.....experience what I want when I want. Its becoming so mechanized. People talk about NGE and MM+ allows them the freedom to do other things, IMO it is all a series of appointments. Be here....go there....

Weather you like it or not MM+ is about control, control your behavior so Disney can control cost etc. Find ways to extract money from its guest. Its sold as an enhancement to your experience. IMO its any thing but. Someone....maybe two people mentioned Uni ( amazing that EVERY thread turns in to a Disney vs Uni). Uni hasn't instituted a program like this YET. Maybe they will.....maybe they wont. Atleast as of today they havnt and I am happy about that. In itself it wont make me visit Uni any more or less......but neither will the MM+ make me want to visit Disney. In fact it makes me want to visit Disney less. When I do visit come January, I will take necessary precautions as needed to not be tracked by big brother mouse.

Before the flames start flying, I have no choice in everyday life. Except going off the grid there is very little you can do. The difference is I am paying Disney for my experience there. I don't like the fact that I am paying them to do this. Whats my alternative? Not to visit.....got it! My presence on property will be less and less.
