LOL Universal compares them self better than disney

Once again, lots of companies compare themselves to the competition and make their case for why their product is a better choice. Why should this be viewed any differently?
Perhaps, but from my experience, it's best to avoid direct comparisons unless your product is almost indisputably better. On the contrary, here, it seem not only that some of the comparison seem nearly equal, but information is misrepresented to enhance the comparison (information, I might add, that even an average observer might note).

Note: that is not to say the same is not done in other cases.

For example:

FREE EXPRESS RIDE ACCESS FOR ON-SITE HOTEL GUESTS
vs.
Disney's Hotel Guests — No

When in reality, all guests, including on-site hotel guests have access to a comparable system.

TODAY’S HOTTEST ENTERTAINMENT
Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, The X-Men, Shrek, Jimmy Neutron, Fear Factor, The Mummy
vs.
Yesterday’s Classic Fairytales
Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs, Peter Pan, Cinderella, Toy Story, Monsters Inc.

When at least two of "Yesterday" are as current as "Hottest's" listing.

ROLLER COASTERS

When Universal omits or fails to update the list to include Disney's offering.

THRILLING ATTRACTIONS
The Amazing Adventures of
Spider-Man, Shrek 4-D, Doctor Doom's Fearfall, MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack, TWISTER… Ride it Out, Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast
vs.
Mission: SPACE, Test Track, Soarin', Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Star Tours, It's Tough to be a Bug!, DINOSAUR

When, as listed, Disney offers more "Thrilling Attractions" than Universal (7-6)

WATER PARKS
Wet 'n Wild
vs.
Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon

When Disney offers more parks than Universal.

I'm really kinda surprised at that kind of an advertising campaing from them. When I worked at Universal 2 years, our presenter at orientation said not to look at Universal as competing with Disney. Given, it's absurd not to assume that any theme park in the same area would compete. We were just always told that we weren't competing, but moreso peacefully co-existing.

The thing about the fastpasses - if you stay onsite at Universal, your room key acts as an Express Pass (Universal's pass) for every ride, an unlimited amount of turns on each ride; you could also purchase an Express Pass that gave you 1 Express Pass for each ride (without the purchase of such, it worked the same as a fastpass with your park admission).

I love Disney loads more than Universal... I just thinks it's silly the rivalry between the two.

They're two completely different experiences - as is comparing a theme park with an amusement park (such as bringing Cedar Point into the debate.) I've been to Cedar Point, but having grown up in Tampa with not only Disney, but also Busch Gardens, Sea World, and Universal nearby, I won't even bother going to Kennywood (Pittsburgh's local theme park) -
I like it more as an experience of the theme park.

I think that they're both great parks , and though I do prefer Disney, I think the rivalry is ridiculous.

Peacefully co-exist :sohappy:

The "rivalry" only exists with the park that draws fewer visitors- Universal. Disney far outdraws them every year, and doesn't need to mention them at all. There is a reason none of Disney's ads even mention their existence.

That was a national campaign, because our Six Flags (Great Adventure) showed the same ads. Six Flags also used to claim they were, "bigger than Disneyland."

I don't care if Universal compares themselves to Disney, that's business. It's going to happen all the time. I take issue with some of the blatant factual innaccuracies and strange method of doing so- comparing a ride to a film? If you truly believe your product is better, than stand behind it. Don't come up with these cockamamie comparisons where the things you compare aren't even related.

Thats what the "TAG LINE" was "Bigger than Disneyland and closer to home" I dont know about Six Flags Great Adventure but Six Flags over Texas is a DUMP. I could not believe how a park could just deteriorate in such a short time that is closed 2 months out of the year.

Six Flags great adventure is a dump too- it's dirty, haphazardly designed, and tends to attract a less than desirable element.

I went to Six Flags Texas just a week ago for the first time in 17 years. As I have said I was just amazed at how bad the park looked. I worked there as a teenager and through college in the 80's. It was always beat into our head that the Texas pak was the Flagship park of the entire chain and therefore it was taken care of the best. The less desirable element was all over that park the day of my visit. I found this so funny. They make there employees and guest walk thru a metal detector!!!! What a lovely start to a day of fun?????!!!!!

That's not exactly true.

I agree completely with iKat...that the rivalry is ridiculous because they are two totally different experiences which do not really compare. Universal is more of a one or two day park, for locals, or for those on a weeklong vacation somewhere else who want to spend a day there. Disney, however IS a weeklong vacation and, while many people may leave Disney grounds for one day of their vacation and visit Universal, the opposite is not the case: people don't drive down from Maine to visit Universal for a week and take a day out of that to visit Disney. So Universal is a days diversion while WDW is a weeklong vacation destination. So, IMO, the rivalry is ludicrous because there is no need for any rivalry.

Now back to your point...I disagree with your assessment that it is only Universal that engages in this rivalry. Yes, you're right that Disney may not mention Universal in their advertising. But the fact that Disney is always trying to respond to Universal's latest ride shows that Disney, also, is trying to "outdo" Universal. IMO, Disney doesn't NEED to come up with a new ride or attraction of their own to counter something new that Universal does because, IMO, there is no need for rivalry to begin with. But the fact that Disney DOES try to "keep up" with Universal's latest moves shows that Disney, rightly or wrongly, sees a rivalry there as well.

Ya, you do have a point there. I stand by my statement that there is nothing wrong with comparing yourself to the competition and trying to highlight your strengths to make the case that your product is better than theirs. That's just business and basic advertising.

But I accept your point that you should not resort to blatant falsehoods in the process.

I like Universal, but I love Disney. I am sick of US stooping so low with the (false) comparison crap. I hope they stop that before the Harry Potter park is opened.

they listed the TWISTER..Ride It Out as "thrilling" ????
you stand up and watch it happen.....

that has the be the STUPIDEST thing i have ever been on. In no way, shape, or form do i concider that thrilling.

so if thats thrilling.. than One Mans Dream or Play House Disney should be concidered "thrilling" as well.

Universal- No room for expansion

Disney- TONS!

I've always liked Universal because its a park that opened when I was young so I feel like I grew up with it. The only problem I have with Universal is that if they change a ride they really have to overhaul it because there isn't much space for them to expand.

that's strange i have a topic about this site (not WDWMAGIC, uni-who):
http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=189822

sorry i did do a search but it funny how you type "universal compare disney" its still comes up with 1000 threads about the wand lol

it funny if you think about it because the amount of tourists that come to Florida for disney and take a couple of days to go to to universal. In some ways universal should thank disney for the business it brings :)

Gee, what a surprise. A company advertises its product and claims that theirs is better than that of the competition. In my 32 years on this Earth, I've never, ever seen that advertising technique.

lol yeah i know what you mean but it's like me putting a couple of fair ground rides out in my garden and putting a sign outside saying my rides are better than disney lol

universal may be a different kind of thrill but it is of no way compared to disney and to try saying so just make them look desperate lol when they could market them self in so many different ways and look good.

though would it really take much to sort universal out all they need is to train there staff to a high standard and bring in more quality rides / shows and they could be at a high standard like disney

The OP mentioned Universals shows. I could not believe how crappy and cheap the universal show were. The ones that come to mind, the Animal Stunt Show (which had Animal Planet as a sponsor). It had no flow to it and all of a sudden it was over.

The Beetle Juice music show. I have seen bad community theater that was better than this little gem.

The Terminator 3-D, It may have been just me but the sound was so loud and distorted that I could not follow the storyline.

I will give Universal this the Monster Make up show was very good.

But all in all I expected a little more better quality shows from a movie, themed park

And last time I checked the clubs at DTD were a lot more fun than the clubs ar CW

Then I'd say its been a VERY long time since you've checked. DTD (PI in particular) has become extremely rundown. My brother and I visited PI this past April. When we bought our tickets, they had a deal where you could add five more days for only $5 (I'm sure if Universal did something like that, folks here would accuse them of being "desperate"). Anyway, we paid the extra $5 because we thought it seemed like a great deal. It wasn't. We never came back to PI the rest of that trip. That's how horrible and boring PI has become. In contrast, CityWalk is more incredible than ever. We went back there every night and it was a blast! They had a live band playing up on the balcony which was way cool, and the band was actually playing current songs (as opposed to the 80's cover band that has been playing at PI in the Rock N Roll Beach Club for years...playing the same set list night after night...yawn!!). Also, the employees at CW are the best!! The ones at PI all had terrible attitudes and acted like they hated their jobs.

i don't know i could literally do everything I wanted at Universal in 1 full day.

I don't see how anyone could do everything at Universal in one day and honestly claim they had done it fully and with and open mind. In order to pull that off, you'd have to be doing it "commando style" and not really taking the time to enjoy everything.

also someone in my family says universal costs more than disney, and on there commercial they say there cheaper than disney

Universal often runs some killer deals that make it a much better bargain than the price of admission to Disney. But of course whenever they do that, they get accused of being "desperate". So really they just can't win, at least not in the minds of the closed-minded.
