Lockers

So I've only been to Universal once, way back in 2000. Went to the original park and hated it. The only ride I remember liking was Back to the Future. So when people talk about lockers, I'm confused. I know what they are but as for why are they there is another question. Wouldn't it be easier just to put a little space on the ride of your stuff?

They don't want stuff tossed from the ride vehicles while more and more people show up at theme parks as though they are about to trek through the mountains for weeks. It also helps keep the line moving because you aren't waiting constantly for people to secure a small apartment's worth of junk.

Also, it is usually impossible to actually secure items on the rides that require lockers. Where are you going to secure a backpack on Dragon Challenge or the Hulk?

I just went to a park that still had small shelfs on the exit side of the platform to hold people's stuff. I'm sure it easily doubled the load time of the ride as people entering the ride had to wait for people exiting the ride before they could store their stuff. It was not fun.

As much as I hate the chaos of the lockers at FJ, I can't imagine how bad it would be if people where trying to do that while they were boarding the ride.

Has the locker chaos improved at all? The HP lockers worked maybe half the time and most people couldn't figure out the MiB ones. And the attendants were overrun and flustered. Felt sorry for them.

FJs are still a mess. In the way, too cramped, too busy and too dark.

Like others said, they only require them on rides where it would be impossible to store backpacks and such on the ride vehicles without them falling out or being thrown out. Also consider that Hulk or Mummy are a lot more aggressive than any Disney ride and your stuff would be thrown out of the vehicle. FJ is the only ride where the lockers can be a headache.

Be thankful it's not like Sea World, where they still charge for the lockers.

Oh and a lot of people don't realize it, but the vehicles on FJ have a little compartment on your seatback that you can store your wallet, keys, cell phone, etc. in. You have to be fast with it though and if your pockets are tight, it isn't necessary.

They should really build a remote locker location outside between Hippogriff and FJ

Mummy lockers worked well a few days ago, I like that they are free for the first 25 minutes unlike some other parks.

The duration the lockers are free depends upon the posted wait time. It's usually your wait time +15-20 minutes.

You'll be doing yourself a real favor if you can go to Universal without any sort of bag.

The last couple times we all wore cargo shorts and packed light. Saved us a lot of headaches.

Probably not an option for people with young children, but give it a thought.

As someone who has visited other parks like Six Flags, I definitely have an appreciation for the availability of at-attraction lockers at UO. In most parks, the coaster-enthusiast's best option is to pack light and wear highly un-stylish cargo pants with zippered pockets.

Although I've experienced some locker times that provide longer duration than that, it is a little bit annoying to have to "switch lockers" when re-riding attractions during the slower seasons. You can sometimes squeeze in two rides during one free locker use, depending on the attraction. But heaven forbid you miscalculate, because they you'll be asked to submit a payment to open your locker, and guess where your wallet is

I wear stylish cargo shorts now.

When I was larger and longer shorts were in I used to put my wife's purse in my cargo shorts when walking through the bag check.

First time posting! Been to WDW many times, but have a first time USO visit in FOUR days!! I am not used to rides where lockers are needed! I was planning on brining a passport size purse that I could slip under my shirt on rides. Do you think that would work?

Yes, using the lockers in the FJ cause you to wait longer but the best part of that ride is the line! you get talking paintings, virtual appearances by the cast and snow in Florida!. Not too shabby, I feel cheated if I use the single rider entrance or have no line and rush through to the ride.
