Accident at LMA
Hi all.
I was at the Motor Stunt Show last Thursday when the accident happened -- the first motorcycle over the ramp appeared to be going just a bit too slow and fell short of the ramp, hitting the edge of it and propelling the driver over the handlebars. He skidded down the ramp (it looked like he had hit the ground shoulder-first) as the two following motorcycles made the jump and passed him without hitting him.
The driver did not move after he slid to the bottom of the ramp, and a number of the cast members who were onstage ran over to him. After only a moment, the announcement was made over the stadium's PA system to "evacuate the stadium."
Cast members appeared almost immediately and started having us leave our seats (we were in the second row, so we were among the first to start to evacuate). As we were moving out of our row, a group of cast members brought out a tent-like structure, which they put over the injured driver. They closed in the sides of the tent on three sides with white sheets, so after that was in place we couldn't see what was happening around the driver anymore.
We called a friend who knew people who worked at Disney-MGM, to see what he could find out. He told us the next day that apparently the motorcycle driver had not been seriously injured. That was the only information we could get from anyone -- the folks at Disney-MGM weren't talking about it.
We had been wondering about the moat being empty when the show started, but since we didn't get to see the finale of the show, we never knew if that segment of the show was just going to be left out or if something new would be done at the end...
