Living with the Land updates

That's great that a classic and neglected attraction is getting some attention. I wonder if this is a positive side to Fastpass+? Crowd levels for LWTL are much higher than they used to be, so maybe this is encouraging Disney to fix things up a bit.

Despite how most people say they enjoy the classic-nostalgia dark ride scenes... I still think Disney should upgrade the nature scenes (and maybe add* some more to replace the movie screens in the barn). I would love to see some new very cool looking animal AAs in the rainforest, house, and desert scenes... It would be so cool!

I mean, it's basically just Epcot's indoor version of Jungle Cruise right now. These scenes could look so cool if the AAs were really realistic.. Imagine what awesome affect Disney could do with those crocodiles! cx Maybe have the dog actually walk around the house's yard and maybe chase after the boat as it passes by. It would be pretty cool.

I hear ya. There is potential to plus it up nicely there. But still, it does have the nostalgia factor since it's pretty much how I remember it from 30 years ago in the beginning section except for live narration.

I would like to see the spinning lettuce growing contraption back again in the greenhouse section though.

And there's a lot that can go wrong in this ride (tons of sets and detailed animatronic figures to break or wear out), either they've been super lucky about nothing breaking lately or someone is keeping an eye on things and fixing it as it's needed. Either way I was pleasantly surprised and pleased to see the good condition of things (again excluding the narration and poor descent).

Because of the stupidity regarding the ending, the entire refurb got a bad rap - but the first half was very well done. The animatronics were all upgraded, it was almost creepy the first time I rode with the new ones because they were so much more lifelike. They really did a bang up job with the show scenes.

Sources are also stating that the boat storage building is now being completely refurbished, and new railings are being installed on the roof of the building (like it is being done property-wide). I've seen this happen in tomorrowland and adventureland. What I'm worried about is if the normal day guest can see them; are they being well hidden?

Land Boat storage is way in the back of the Land complex. You won't be able to see anything.

Also, say goodbye to the lonely Cast Member sitting in a corner monitoring the cameras before the greenhouses. They are moving backstage.

You mean "using the internet but acting like they are monitoring" CM position. :p

Regarding the doors, I was on a trip a few years ago where there maintenance workers standing by the doors examining them. On a previous ride on that trip, we had noticed them making a noise when opening. I suspect it was just easier to leave them open.

There's now an updated spiel:

Among the changes, you will notice that a lot more information about unusual (but edible) plants are given while the boat is in the Tropics greenhouse. Also, in the Production greenhouse, the famous nine-pound lemon tree has been moved to the back. In the Strings greenhouse (the area where most plants are hanging from strings) there are many more plants that were recently added, and the section before the finale was recently refurbished and now includes a new way to furnish water to plants. All of these additions and changes are finally reflected in the updated spiel.

Also sources have been stating that the 'sliding doors' are back. If you had the chance to visit Epcot in the past, you may remember that the dark ride section of Living with the Land was physically separated from the greenhouses using thin doors that used to slide from the ceiling to the flume. There are about four sliding doors throughout the ride, but they were all turned off many years ago as they stopped working and... well, nobody fixed them. They've now decided to fix them because the temperature in the greenhouse has been fluctuating too much; they were installed to maintain a set temperature in the greenhouses and to control the humidity levels. It seems like it took them way too long to understand that these doors are actually essential. :banghead:

Rooftop railings are now an OSHA requirement. Good day to be a railing manufacturer.

I think most people support upgrading older animatronic figures to newer more advanced ones. Provided they're designed properly from an artistic perspective. As stated, the updated animatronics was one thing pretty much everyone liked about the SSE 2007 overhaul.

As far as i'm concerned, provided you have a good artist to ensure they still look good then i'm always in support of upgraded AA's. Little Mermaid is a good example of animatronics that move better than most classic dark rides but the artists who designed their looks, particularly faces, did a subpar job. Ursula looks good and i've no real complaints there (some of what makes her look good is probably related to the black lighting used) but all the Ariel and other human figures are very off looking (particularly the eyes). It can be done right though with the right people in charge of the paint/lighting/sculpting. And looks great when it is.

Luckily all that exists with Living with the Land are animals.. Disney usually gets those rights. :3

Yup, it's either railings or workers need to wear anti-fall harnesses if they'll be working within x feet of the edge of the roof (6 or 8 feet, I believe).

I wonder if pop-up railings would satisfy the OSHA requirements. Things like the railings on the EE lifthill, Primeval Whirl emergency walkways or in some places in the Indy ride at Disneyland. They're folded down out of sight during normal operation but pop up automatically when the ride E-stops. Having them on top of the building they could be down and out of view from Guest areas until a worker needed to go out onto the roof.

Now if we can just get the broken heat effect in the desert scene working, all would be good.
There's a lot more work to be done than that IMHO (no disrespect intended btw). Even if the doors have been fixed since I visited this past Thursday, unless they've also done a LOT of overnight work on the animal figures in the rainforest and prairie scenes within the past few days, almost all of them (besides the ones at the farm) are still in p*** poor condition. As I said, the monkeys, birds, alligators, and all the bugs were almost all stationary in the rainforest show scene. Only a couple of them showed any sign of motion, and these were only feebly jerking as if they were dying, every single figure in that scene needs work ASAP. The buffalo figures were also either barely moving or entirely stationary.

The amount of limited moving or outright non-moving animatronics is comparable to if not worse than the awful condition of Splash Mountain's figures prior to the successful 2013 refurb (and all of the figures in the Land are far older and less articulated AA's than Splash already).

The doors worked in May! I know it! Lol
