Why is it that I experience worry with the announcement of every rehab? Please keep Epcot, Epcot! No need to kiddy pander in every attraction in every park and no need to talk down or play stupid to the kids either.

Aas someone said, it could go either way. Can but hope
I am not super worried about this one. I think Nemo and friends is a great vehicle to bring children and familes in to the attraction and provide a good way to engage people in a way that is culturaly relivant in today's market. They can still show all the same information about the world's oceans and the research and conservation programs that Disney and it's partners are involved in. They will just use new characters and surroundings that young children can relate to.

This is Disney adapting to current culture. When I was a kid, everyone thought the future, the year 2000, would bring all the great things Epcot showed in the early 80's. Now our culture is a bit more jaded about the future and are looking for more here and now sorta stuff. Nemo and Dori and Crush, etc. can provide that. Done right, this could be totally top notch. It won't looking like a seabase, maybe it will look like being inside a giant coral reef like the little mermaid area or Tokyo Disney Sea.

We are going aug 21-1, and this was one of the selling points for my wife (she loves the aquariums). Now it will be closed. go figure. I just cant get a break.

the Coral Reef restaurant, Seas Aqua Tour, DiveQuest, and Dolphins in Depth will continue their operational schedule inside the building while the Nemo meet and greet outside will be unaffected.

Ya think they will put up construction walls over all the windows in the tank so the DiveQuest people can't see what's going on in Seabase Alpha?

Do lunch or dinner at the Coral Reef :) Big giant windows into the tanks!

Extreme Makeover: EPCOT Edition. :p

I am glad to see they are doing this.

I agree a correct balance of Fantasy and Real Life would be nice. I would enjoy it if one of the Nemo Characters was your tour guide through the Sea Cab ride, but you saw real fish.

Well I have a reservation for Divequest on Aug 26. I am wondering about cancelling since my DW & DD will not be able to watch. This will break my DD's heart. On the otherhand I could maybe get some peaks at what is going on inside the pavillion. Hmmm, what should I do????

Which DiveQuest? The 5:30? If so, make them a ressie at the Coral Reef restaurant.

We were very disappointed the last time we were at The Coral Reef. It is on the way bottom of our dining list. The view was great and the atmosphere was typical Disney, but the waitress was horrible and the food for the price was a little extreme. $30.00 for a small piece of catfish and 3 pieces of asparagus.:hammer: I don't mind spending money on food, but that was ridiculous.

Thanks for the idea though.

Probably not worth doing a dive tour JUST to see inside on that date. They will have just started cleaing the place out. If you were going in October then it would totally be worth it just for the sneak peak.

Although I am sad it will not be open for my upcoming trip, I am anxious to see what improvements they make. The Living Seas has so much potential!

Grizz- any idea if the living seas salon (the VIP level) is getting a rehab? I have my wedding reception there next July!

My feelings on the rehab are: its long overdue, love the nemo (as long as its done tastefully), love the idea of reworking the preshow and the cab rides. I just pray they keep the living seas theme music. The background music loops for these pavilions are what make it EPCOT for me.

I used to feel the exact same way until I walked into the new Land and rode Soarin'. I'm hoping that wasn't a fluke. This changeover, I think, is the biggest no-brainer of all the recent changes. This should be very hard for Disney to screw up.

Let's hope we are both pleased with any changes that come here.

No clue about the VIP lounge. I'd assume it would be untouched. It's *VERY* nice, and you're one LUCKY sea friend to have it up there!

I also hope the theme song is kept. If the score is changed to Finding Nemo, I'll be pretty upset. Kinda like putting themes to "ET" and "Pearl Harbor" in the Land. That would be ridiculous. Oh wait... :lookaroun

Albert Falls: This "third phase" has been tossed around the Internet by yours truly since fall 2003. I hope it's not THAT BIG of a surprise. :D

Am I the only one who's opposed to this rehab? Firstly, if Nemo took over it would destroy the whole concept of the living seas, and make it a good excuse for a meet n' greet. Second, a whole pavillion devoted to cartoon characters would not fit right in Future World. It will just screw things up even more. Imagineers, you're great, but what you are doing here is a mistake. Personally, I think they just should have kept only one exibit with nemo, that would've been fine, but I've always like the whole sea base alpha theme. Not to mention that I've always liked the hydrolaters. They could atleast make them bigger for higher capacity.
Pssst... no real blame should be put on the Imagineers. Point your nose to those in charge of the Imagineers and above, and direct it to them. Imagineers are being laid off left and right and they, well, don't have as much freedom as they used to.

I agree with your general sentiment regarding too much Nemo in the Seas. Too much of a good thing, I call it. However, the plans are set. If Disney screws this one up, well, then we'll have a better idea on what to think about the future of the Universe of Energy and Spaceship Earth.

This is in regard to:
1. Show quality. I.E. Are the speakers still hidden? :lookaroun
2. IMPROVING the story. Is the Seas story told MORE EFFECTIVELY?
3. New elements. Do the new elements bring the Seas into the 21st century WHILE creating an immersive experience?
4. Spirit. Does the spirit of the pavilion match the themes behind the story?

If all four of these are improved, then I'll feel much better about the next Epcot rehabs (except for the whole "Pixar" factor... see: Energy). If not, well, then we'll see.

From what I've heard, EPCOT is preparing for it's big 25th, which will start just as the HCOE is ending. I understand that every older attraction will undergo a 3-4 month rehab (SS, UOF, HISTA, TLS, ect.) I don't think anything is planned for the countries, besides a new parade and an updated ROE.

Take it for what's it worth, but I heard this from a busdrive... :p
lol j/k about the bus driver. My source comes from someone high up in the company. He has been correct on some things, and other things havent happened yet, so we will see.

1. Remeber there's more to it than whether the speakers are visible. It's a design movement as of late, especially since the affinity with track lighting, to make the functional visible. It's a contemporary movement. It's like artists showing their brush strokes. It comes and goes - it doesn't make it bad as long as it doesn't detract from the show. There's a difference between being blinded by a mis-aimed spotlight as opposed to a functional speaker discreetly attached to a wall.

2. The story can't get much worse. Movie... to bubbles! to... Giftshop?

3. We'll have to see about the new elements. They'll be better than faded gobo's in the ceiling water effects lights of the main building and the broken hydrolators though.

4. It depends on what the spirit really is versus what the story is. Sea Base Alpha was a story - a device - for conveying the spirit of the pavillion. The Seas is about exploration and wonder as it pertains to the seas. The only thing in the original and current pavilion from the original concept (page 119 Walt Disney's EPCOT Center) for The Living Seas is "the pavilion dedicated to man's relationship with the sea."

Hmmm....didn't we all complain when they removed the cartoon/puppet character from the Imagination pavilion????? I don't know why a cartoon character can't teach everyone something and still provide the educational value that the pavilion has always had. Mr. Ray sure seemed to know a lot about the ocean. :animwink:

Isn't WDW all based around a cartoon character? Walt said it all started with a mouse?

hhmmmm, interesting that the entrance/ exit is swapping. ill be anxious to see what the post show is and how they remodel the hydrolators.

hydrolators- they were a very cool touch to the younger audience in my opinion. i thought as a child that they were real....... hopefully im not nieve. but they do make for long waits. in today society.... we dont like to wait.

Nemo- ohhh boy. as it has been expressed above, in my own words, i hope that it doesnt make me have to puke after leaving. ill ask my niece if Nemo is still the "coolest" out of curiosity since things come and go quickly in a kids eyes.

seacabs: im excited to hear they might return. 2 cheers for the seacabs.

i know that SSE, UoE, and WoL needs some work..... but im wondering if in the future, a new attraction would be added to the pavilion ei: soarin was to the land.
