Living Seas: Is It Ever Gonna Get A New Ride?

I'd rather they have gotten rid of the elevator thingies than the little ride part. I don't think the elevators go anywhere either... the floor moves and the bubbles go up. People still run your butt over to hop on them after the pre-show though.:zipit:

The Living Seas is a very DATED attraction. I visited in October right before the ride closed and I can honestly say that I have a better time looking at the aquarium in my city. I do believe that the marine world should be represented in Epcot because it should have a little of all (land, sea, air, and space) The land is the land and even though it is dated, it still serves as a decent attraction. The living seas needs a major rehaul...maybe keep the same concept...just update it a little bit...make the ride longer, maybe make a completely glass tube you walk through...so the sealife swims under your feet as well as all around you and get rid of the ride altogether. Mission:Space is going to be huge and a great addition to the park if they keep to the learning experience as well as the thrill...Air??? Come on...is that Stormrider attraction coming or not???

Add all the thrills you want to this park...just keep to Walt's vision...that's all I ask...WE WANT TO LEARN AT E.P.C.O.T.!!!
We want to come out of this park feeling like it "improved" us in some way.

If the Stormrider attraction does come, don't expect it to take the place of everything. It will probably be put between JIYI/Land or Land/Living Seas.

I heard somewhere that if the Stormrider attraction is put in, it would go in between the Land and the Living Seas and connect all three together. IMO this would be a great way to get people over to that side of the park again. Grab a Fastpass for Stormrider and while you wait hop on over to the Land or the Living Seas.

What does everyone else think?

The Living Seas needs to be updated..... but maybe add a simulator ride to take guests to Sea Bae Alpha instead of the hydroelevators. Imagine a simulated ride down into the water with seats and more breathing room. (Wouldnt it be better than in the fartovators... someone always passes gas in there)

I like the tube idea, as many places have it now. But it would be hard to pull off.

Living Seas is the largest aquarium. Removing all the water and not to mention the sea life would be a huge task that could cost much more then they are willing to spend.

I agree that the LS does need to be updated, but I really don't know what you could do to it. It is in fact an aquarium, and nothing more. I myself like the film at the beginning, and do not want them to get rid of it. Perhaps it may be boring to those of us who go to WDW at least once a year, me included. But there are thousand of people who attend Epcot who have never been there before and this may be there first experience at LS, and they may be find it very fascinating. The first time I was there I thought it was the greatest attraction there, but the more times I visited the less enamored I was by it.

this ride definitely needs improvement and i thinkwhat they need to do is on the ride part, they should make the aqiummuch tighter to the aquarium so it feels a little like you are with the fish, plus they need to make the ride much much longer because it is about 10 seconds long right now.

Actually right now there is no ride

My husband and I were there in January 2002, and the "seacabs" were not operational. Maybe they're doing some updating there, but none of the CMs were talking!

I think it is a little dated. I like the ocean, sea creatures etc too, but the info is the same as it's been for the past 10 years, and I have to think that there has been some new technology/information discovered in the last 10 years related to the sea, sea-life etc, oceanography etc.

It doesn't need to be a thrill ride, but maybe have the trip to the ocean floor be in some kind of replica of a submersible thing(you know, like you see on the Discovery Channel), and before you get to the living fish, perhaps go through an area where you see fish from way down deep. I did just see a Discovery Channel show on these fish that live like 3 miles down in the ocean, and it was fascinating! Sort of a 20,ooo Leagues meets the Living Seas! Learning can be fun.

From Jim Hill:

That "Stormrider" ride at Port Discovery sounds absolutely awesome! Are there any plans to bring this TDS attraction stateside anytime soon?

As I understand it, Tom, there have already been active discussions at WDI about opening a version of "Stormrider" at Epcot sometime in late 2005 / early 2006. The current feeling is that - what with this attraction's obvious ties to the ocean (Most of the storyline for this TDS simulator ride is set out at sea, high up in the air at the outermost edge of a massive hurricane) - this Port Discovery show would make a great (and logical) addition to Future World's "Living Seas" pavilion.

The only problem now is . Finding a new corporate sponsor for "The Living Seas" that has some very deep pockets. Ideally, it would have to be an eco-friendly company that would be willing to underwrite an extensive redo / expansion of this somewhat tired Epcot pavilion.

Mind you, Mickey's willing to kick a few of his own millions to help kick start construction of the project. But what the Mouse would really like is for some corporation to come forward with $100 million or so that's necessary to freshen up all of "The Living Seas" 's current exhibits as well as build those two huge new theaters that Epcot needs to properly present "Stormrider."

That sounds cool but the problem will be finding an 'eco-friendly' company to put up the money, that will agree with the things that happen in the rest of the parks, that agree with the idea of 'Disney'

I don't care what they do, cuz I've got a phobia of being surrounded by water, even if the glass is 5 feet thick. It scares me.

The taking out of the SeaCabs hints even more towards a possible incarnation of StormRider. If SR isnt placed into Living Seas tho, i see a new "Weather Pavillion" in between Living Seas and Land with StormRider.........

As I suggested in the other thread, the Marine life would likely be more appropriate in Animal kingdom. It may cost a pretty penny to pull it off though. Of course, as a marine aquarist, I know that it is easily possible to create a stunning exhibit without having a huge tank. It could be even better. More intimate.

I think Storm rider is an excellent idea.

I have said for a long time that the animals at LS should go to AK. That is the problem when you have an attraction like LS. You can't shut it down, because you have all those animals. But, if they were able to do it with the Discovery Island animals, then they can do it with living seas.

Everyone think of this though. Living Seas is the Only intact ride in Future World now. Even though it opened a little later than the other FW pavilions, it is the only one that hasn't gotten a new ride (major rehab) or had a name change.
