I went to the Disney Blog.. wow they have 15 comments.. all 15 of them.. tell me why is it that we have over 20 pages, and for all of the Disney blog they have a TOTAL OF 15 comments? Doesn't that seem strange to you.. like maybe the nasty comments were eliminated? PAGES OF THEM..

yep that's Disney telling you the truth of how people felt about the announcement.. they found 15 that liked it.. and all the rest.. hated it..

But Staggs and D23 Expo have announced new theme park projects today. WDW fans aren't the only Disney Theme Park fans out there. This was a great day for Disneyland fans, and Disneyland got quite a surprise from Tom Staggs when he announced the transformation of the existing Plaza Gardens into the new Fantasy Faire village. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...y-faire-experience-coming-to-disneyland-park/ Plus the news about the Mary Poppins bakery coming to Main Street, and the re-Imagineering of the Candy Palace, Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor, and Carnation Cafe

Okay, actually Al Lutz had already leaked that proposal to turn Plaza Gardens into that concept a few months ago, but the idea had been pushed to the back burner for Disneyland fans and it was a surprise to see it resurface and be given the green light by Staggs.

And the videos and information offered on the Seven Dwarves Mine Train, in addition to the AMAZING new visuals and detailed information about Cars Land and Buena Vista Street at DCA, all added up to an exciting day, especially for Westerners who are Disneyland visitors and fans. :sohappy:

Today wasn't a total wash for a lot of Disney theme park fans. The Disneyland websites have exploded with surprise and happy chatter today, thanks to D23 Expo and Tom Staggs presentation this afternoon.

This is all true. I was very pleased when I logged onto this site and saw that video of the mine train. It seems like that ride is going to be AMAZING. Almost like a little tamer than BTM and it also tells the story of the dwarves. I approve.

I am also glad they announced some new projects, even if it's not for WDW. It could be worse. They could have announced nothing for all the Disney parks.

However, here is where my annoyance comes in (and it's mostly jealously). But it seems that Disneyland and DCA get a lot of stuff and it's built rather quickly. Even though FLE looks awesome and I understand it's a lot of things being built, Why do they have to be built so slow? FLE was announced in 2009. The first phase isn't supposed to open until late 2012. 3 year?!!?!? If I'm not mistaken both Ariel's undersea adventure rides were announced at/around the same time. Why does everything that gets put in WDW take forever to open?

So.......a business is controlling the content of ITS website/blog. Imagine that.....

I'm not surprised nothing was announced, D23 does not have to be the place to do such things. The purpose of D23 is for Disney to sell tickets and make money on merchandise, and for bloggers and twitter-whores to try and boost traffic to their blogs and to gain twitter followers? Seems that about 50% of the attendees are so-called "press" AKA "a blogger with about 10 visitors a week". I can only imagine what that expo must be like with all these blogger-egos floating around.

Be realistic. No business is going to have people spewing hate messages all over its official website. You can't blame them.

It'll be fine...
Waiting years between attractions is nothing new. MK has been almost 20 years between E-tickets, without one in currently in sight.

There are things in the pipeline for all the parks. Some of these things will arrive eventually, but on the company's timeframe...not ours.

What sets today's event apart from the past is this wonderful internet. Without it we would never know what is coming until they told us. FLE would have been a shocker when Rasulo announced it, as would have Star Tours.

Nowdays, we know what is coming way before they really want us to. We're like kids searching the house for Christmas presents.
Perhaps we are doing ourselves a disservice...
Maybe we'd all be better off just sitting back and waiting on them to make their announcements and then being surprised.
(Hmmm...maybe that would make a nice blog/rant...)

Anyhow...Shanghai looks nice. I look forward to getting over there in a few years.

This is the best post I've read on here in awhile...agree wholeheartedly.

Very good point. It's difficult on a WDW fan site to not always be thinking "What do we get?", but there are other parks worldwide, and we are getting a $300 million expansion. I loved the model and cgi of the minetrain. Plus, we got the Tiki Room back! (albeit an 'inspired' incarnation, but it's back nonetheless) :)

We don't expect 3 billion a year on e-tickets at all but we would like to see something done to plus the experience for returning guests. Even six flags gets new stuff on a fairly regular basis. WDW gets nothing.

Orange County Convention Center is 20 minutes away from WDW, not a long ride away really.

Yes, but the logistics of moving up to 40,000 people per day back and forth from that venue to WDW is daunting. Not to mention costly. Not to mention the logistics and cost of getting all that equipment, staff and personalities from all the various Disney divisions from Southern California out to Orlando and back.

D23 Expo as we know it in Orlando or on WDW property? Never gonna happen. :(

Is the reception so luke-warm? I haven't seen it yet and I will not ride it before late September so I don't know how it is.

Don't get me wrong, it's great. But don't expect to wait more than 15 minutes to ride it. If the queue's longer than 15 minutes just come back in a little while.

Even on opening weekend, the long lines and rabid fan enthusiasm simply hasn't been there.

The only time I've seen it with a wait time over 15 minutes (besides opening weekend, and even that wasn't too bad) was our most recent trip when two of the simulators were off-line.

Maybe Six Flags was a bad example but most quality parks get new attractions every year or two. I'm just not sure how long WDW can continue to be satisfied with what they've got. And I'm telling you the FLE isn't going to help attendance as much as they hope. That's not the problem at WDW. IMO from what I've seen the LMA looks like a small step above ET.

Most of the time the "new" rides at Six Flags are recycled roller coasters that were taken down from OTHER Six Flags parks. Or in Great Adventure's case one we've had for years painted a new color, given a new name and then advertised as "brand new!!!"

If you are talking Bizzaro, which I think you are, then rip it down!!!! I hated it when it was Medusa....

That reminds me...
They really need to box up the whole FLE model and ship it to Orlando. It needs to be on display somewhere on property where average guests can get a look at it.

Couldn't agree more Lee. I love models of planned attractions/lands. I love the Peoplemover so much simply because of the Progress City model. To bad WDW never got the rest of the model.

With all due respect Lee, the internet rumor mill didn't convince me that the parks have become stale on an unprecedented scale.

My experience visiting the parks has shown me that, which is why the lack of announcements is disheartening.

The execs just aren't interested in investing in the parks in ways that would bring those parks up to speed.

this

also i posted this to the blog if it seems too extreme let me know i really tried to be realistic but i'm sure i botched it up.

Dear Disney, I love your parks, I go every year, but yesterday really has me reconsidering. I sincerely hope you take to heart these comments and the lackluster response you got at the parks and resorts presentation. We’re not taking about a few diehard fans(though that catergory should matter to you) we are talking about a huge room filled with dissapointed people that paid a lot to be there. And that’s not even taking into account the hundreds of dissapointed fans that were following online. Here’s hoping you have some tricks up your sleeve for WDW’s 40th or I will remain quite disheartened. I challenge you, suprise us, amaze us, delight us, as I know only you can.

wow.. they approved it and now up to 21 negative posts that have been approved.. that's weird
