Just so that everyone knows...the store opened on Monday and it has been a hit...the store has been so busy that they cant keep items in stock...it was underestimated! You may not think the store is the best idea but it is more then you think. They sell for girls, boys, women, and men. Therefore, dont judge the store when you have no idea about it.

i went last night to check it out and the place was D-E-D, ded. the store itself looks VERY undisney in its setup. the walls were painted white and lots of temporary orange fixtures inside. carpet and lighting was still what was used for starbillas.

my thought is this is a place holder until disney can figure out what it is they want to do with the space. i think they are just trying to make some money in the mean time. i am hoping a male version of tren-d is still in the works. btw this and the craptacular diana exhibit westside is starting to have the stench of failure about it.

LittleMissMatched opened earlier this year in a temporary location at Disneyland's DowntownDisney that looked very temporary. Then about three months later they moved into a permanent location, and they've been doing big business ever since.

Disneyland's DowntownDisney also had a Kitson Kids open in the old Starabilias location, and that's been busier than I thought it would be. Kitson is the West Los Angeles store that Paris Hilton and other trampy starlets shop at for 200 dollar t-shirts and such. :hurl: Surprisingly, the Kitson Kids at Disneyland has done well since it opened. It's certainly a more expensive and exlusive environment than Starabilias ever was.

The point being, at Disneyland they've allowed Downtown Disney to break from its more mundane "tourist mall" roots and go rather funky and exclusive, and it's working well even in this economy. I'm sure with this One Disney thing, they are picking up on that in Orlando and are testing the waters a bit.

I agree lazyboy. With regard to the stores at DL's Downtown Disney, we (in Orlando) have most of them located at our local malls. I would hardly call them unique. If Disney wanted to be unique, they'd use their own vision to create their own stores, and think of items truly innovative to sell to customers, rather than "mall stores" they can pull rent from.

Even using third party vendors can be done so as to create a unique environment. There are destination malls that do still contain national chains. It is all about the selection and environment, but of the entire resort and not just Downtown Disney.
