Because it's one of the most memorable climaxes in Disney history? Also, it was inspired by Die Hard.

Because it's the climax of the film.

Climax of a conflict plot line not even laid out by the ride except by taking snapshots of points of time.

If you've never seen the movie.. the ride tells you

- You have a mermaid that likes random scrap
- You have lots of dancing fish
- You have an octopus that can turn mermaids into people
- Ariel kisses a boy
- Ariel gets golden fairy in her throat
- Ariel and boy get married

I think knowing how Ursula is defeated is the least of the story telling gaps.

If you've never seen the movie..

...you're probably not riding the attraction?

This isn't Song of the South we're talking about here. The great and vast majority of Disney guests riding the attraction, kids and adults, have seen the movie, and will be expecting to see the most memorable things from the film reflected in the ride. It's noble that the attraction might try to have a plot and existence apart from riders' expectations, but if we're honest that's just not a realistic goal for this ride based on this film.

It seems like the ride is more about highlighting the songs from the movie rather than the story, I guess it's just a little to hard to condense an 80 minute movie into a 5 minute ride
Or to show off creative ways to make things out of plastic, and how bright can lights be.

Gotta love this alteration to the DCA ride. There are two experiences now and people have to go to each park to experience the two rides just like HM and Pirates lol lol

So is the complaint that 'the stuff I like to see isn't there' ?? Because your 'memorable scene' is not represented? Well you've got a new one then.. because the complaint has been that ride is abrupt, just ends, and skips critical parts to the story.

My point is the story was never told in continuity anywhere else in the attraction and the Ursula's death scene isn't critical to connect the dots they DO have in the attraction. Ursula isn't even really portrayed as the main antagonist in what they've put in the ride... it's not essential to kill her off to connect what they do have.

And if you don't like what they've chosen to highlight.. then as I said, they've skipped WAY more critical things in the story, and way more connecting points for the scenes they did include.

It's like complaining about the rain while a tornado just leveled your house. Uhh.. big picture folks.

The ending was moved into phase 2. Expect the Mermaid attraction in DCA to close again to refurbish the end of the ride once the new fiscal year starts. The ending re-build would shorten the finale sequence and replace the kiss scene (not Kiss the Girl, the next one) with an epic battle sequence with Eric ramming his ship into Ursula.

The re-do was split into 2 parts due to budgetary concerns.
when does the new fiscal year start?

Well, no, you don't generally kill off the protagonist in a Disney production. The antagonist, now that's another story....

Walt's original intention of the Fantasyland C-Tickets were to give you a snippet of the films. They were made to give you the experience to "live" in the character's environment, not necessarily tell the story of the film.

By the way, the DCA version of LTM looks great! I can't wait to see this implemented at the Magic Kingdom, but most of us can agree that PPF needs the most TLC right now next to Phillarmagic.

Sorry, this is what happens when I've been working for 6+hrs before noon and typing posts inbetween other ongoing thoughts :) You get the gist

So why all the hubub about a single scene missing? A scene not needed to support the rest of the ride?

Probably because this particular scene, if done correctly, would probably be the spectacle or highlight of the entire attraction.

Fine, if the attraction were bigger and longer... a great opportunity for pizzazz..

But the movie is about Ariel getting her boy... not the witch never rising again. So when given a choice, tell the story about the girl, not the witch.

And I agree to what you're saying! But I also have to agree with the others; it would make an awesome ending!

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
I haven't seen the Little Mermaid stage show at DHS in a while, but how well do they tell the story over there?
I haven't seen the film at all, but having seen VotLM at least a dozen times, I feel I have a grasp of the story line.
The DHS show certainly conveys the story line better than UtS-JotLM does.

That being said, I can easily ride the FLE version multiple times per trip, while the DHS show is a one-and-done each year.
