Limiting all guests to 3 FP+ choices per day

I just booked a trip for April and I am struggling with how I want to handle levering the 3 FP+ per day.

In order to maximize my time I'm considering whether it makes more sense to book the FP+ for the afternoon and hit the parks as soon as rope drops. I am assuming (and this is a big assumption on my part) that with people having specific wait times, the crowds at rope drop will lower since people will come to the park around the time of their first FP reservation.

Has anyone had any experience getting there before rope drop and seeing how much bigger or smaller the crowd is compared to the past before FP+ was implemented?
The crowd at rope drop for our last trip 12/13 was the same as every year at that same time.

We are Dave Ramsey followers...so if Disney thinks by making us kill time in the parks by looking at the same stuff in the gift shops that we have seen for the past several years we will spend more money they are wrong. Instead we will go at rope drop like always, hit what we can, go back, swim, relax, nap, then go back and use our FP's. It's just this year we may have more resort time...or maybe we will walk around and take more photos...but we won't be spending more than we budgeted because we don't do debt. We haven't hit the 60 day mark for our trip but I am already stressing over this. Not exactly how I usually feel about an upcoming vacation. :(

I also had a good experience over xmas...only paper fp i used was handed to me...
biggest issues i see w fp + are the tiers in epcot and no park hopping

Love Dave Ramsey! I agree with you...we also will not be spending more than what we budget for! There's so much to do/see anyway :D

A few months before MB's started testing I was talking to a cm working in mk about the rumor of 3 fp+/day, knowing our family usually used 6+/day. They said disney based the number on a survey they did. The survey results told them that the average family only used 1.5 fp's per day so they doubled the number to be generous. My first thought was who the (bleep) took the survey...sigh.

I know a lot about surveys and statistics. You can give me a topic and I can take a survey and sway it any way I want with the same number of people asked.

Here is how you break it down for example. Say Disney surveyed 5000 people and the average use of fast passes were 7 per day. Then lets say Disney does not want to give that many out, so then they have to think of something to justify the 3 per day rule. In business, this is what they do next;

They start surveying 2000-3000 more people but only if they are guests 50 + and over. People this age have heart problems, plus a lot of the older people do not like to go on rides and prefer shows, parades and people watching. A lot of people in this demographic also suffer from motion sickness, are obese, diabetes etc. With this group, most likely 50+ adults do not get as many fast passes therefore the average of fast passes used in a day decreases significantly. In the end, they show justification through a survey that was pretty much watered down.

I work to help homeless people. I do these surveys, bring in the numbers my organization needs to get funding from HUD to help them.

What I would love to see is a survey of fast passes used per day, by families 20-45 years old with kids. Then I would like to see another survey showing the average age of guests entering the parks each year. What you will find out is that the majority of the fanbase that goes to Disney each year are families between the ages of 20-45, with kids and the fast passes used are way over 1.5. I am in the majority, and the 3 per day is going to hurt the majority.

I specifically joined this website just to ask and chat about the new FastPass plus. We have been many times in the past - and enjoy the fast pass like everyone. We are not happy with the Fast Pass Plus at all - we are limited to just 3 per day - and they must be at the same park. Yet guests staying off disney property can still use the kiosks and get as many per day as they want and more than one park - so long as they don't use more than 2 at a time. I'm really upset about this. I'm happy for those that used it already and loved it - but they said things are changing each week. By the time we get there next month - we are only limited to 3 and can not use the kiosks to get new ones. For Epcot it won't even allow me to pick Soarin AND Test Track - I have to pick one or the other. As for the survey - we are in that age group 20-45 - and we have small kids - and we used to go and ride the rides early and get fast passes because we knew the lines would quickly grow long. We'd do the easier / shorter rides in between fast pass times - but soon as we used one fast pass - we would grab another one - since you used to be allowed to have 2 at a time. We have been enough to know how to walk the parks - and we made the most of the fast pass. Who wouldn't? This year we will be there for a birthday - and not happy that the system has changed and that we'll be spending more time waiting in lines.

to the person posting about spending money in the gift shops - yeah that's not going to happen with us either. We don't buy anything from the gift shops - ever. This year will be no different.

okay - my 3rd post in a row - sorry - I think the regular ride times now will be even longer than what they were before - and that isn't good. Maybe we should have booked for Harry Potter instead.

I go to Disney every year and this new policy is horrible. Whats worse is, the people who debate this and say they love this new policy are typically people without kids or older people who do not like more than a couple rides to begin with.

When I started this thread I was wondering how many others felt the same way about the limit of three and lack of hopping as I did. It's clear the majority here agree. I have contacted WDW by letter and hope for a response soon.
There are some great posts here. I look forward to reading more. I just don't see how three is even remotely similar to what's available now. I'm sorry, it's not a good number !

Thank you for contacting WDW - I also sent an email to guest services. 3 is def. not remotely close to what is available now. If it's not broke - don't fix it.

Someone had made a comment about Epcot and said to get FP for Soarin and Nemo - and to do TT as single rider. Ha. The line at Nemo goes fast no matter what time of year you are there, no need for FP - and I'm sorry, I don't want my 9 year old going in the single rider lane at TT...I want him to ride with an adult - or at least his big brother.

Also, Disney figured that if a Parent has 100 bucks in their pocket and if their child wants a 20 dollar balloon, the parent will most likely say no. However, if you have 100 bucks available on your magic band, psychologically speaking, the parent most likely would then say yes.

My solution would be, 3 for Value resorts. 5 for Moderate and 6 for Luxury resorts. Annual pass holders and Florida residents would also get fast passes as if they were in the resorts.

Off site guest then would get a choice; If they wanted to buy, for example, a 5 day park hopper, they would be given a cost for just that ticket. If they wanted a 3 fast pass option, an extra charge would be applied. If they didnt, then they would chose to wait in line. That would then help Disney in bringing in more people to a resort.

Offsite guests having access to Fastpass is only temporary. Soon, all guests will be using FP+ only. AK already has already eliminated fastpasses and transitioned to FP+. I expect the others to follow within a month or two. It's fine to be upset about the limitation, but don't worry too much about offsite guests having an "advantage."

Sorry, but I don't believe your numbers are correct at all. If you look around, you will see as many 50+ as youngers. And if you look, you will see a majority of the people on the scooters are under 40 or so and overweight more than old. And you will see tons of people without children. I think those of us over 50 and those without children, probably use the fastpasses more than the young people with children. We make the rounds faster. We don't have to stop and take care of small children or decide who wants to ride what. We are well over 50, and we used fastpass to the most as do most of our friends. We use fastpass more to keep from waiting in those long lines. My husband is almost 70 and he rides every single ride except Mission Space Orange. And, I do not believe we are the exception. 50 is not old. I have more energy than my 18 year old. I always out walk and out last her when we are in Disney.

It's not that I"m upset for guest off property - it just doesn't make sense to me is all. Phasing out the current system - in my opinion - will only make the lines that much longer. I won't be spending $$$ in the gift shops in between my 3 fast pass times each day - I'll be standing in lines.
