Lilo and Stitch live-action remake

To be fair even on metacritic it has more positive than negative or even mixed reviews, ie it only has 7 negative reviews while the rest are mixed or positive. And even the negative reviews are of the "the original was fine no need for a remake" category which is pretty par for the course on the remakes in general anyways. So I wouldn't put that into the "not so-great reviews" category, just the normal score for these remakes. Even the 2019 Lion King remake had a 55 metacritic score and that made $1.6B.

So this is not to try to change your mind, just putting it into perspective.

You want to start a discussion over the meaning of words again? Mixed or average is how the website describes it. I think not-great is a fair description of that. But whatever, I've edited my original post to be as precise as possible.

There are some pretty ardent defenders of anything Disney puts in the box office. Even Snow White had its proponents, though they went a lot quieter once that one was released.

Well this is just rude… all film is subjective… just because one does not care for the film… does not mean everyone else will agree…. And apparently so as Stitch has a 93% audience score…. Not to mention plenty people avoid spoilers of any kind… some even try to actively avoid trailers of movies that they highly anticipate… there is usually a spoiler thread created in this forum for spoiler talk

Not to mentioned I have had endings spoiled before… and still only had a grasp how it felt in the movie after I saw it… context can be everything

Rumor has it this was originally made for Disney+ and was cobbled into a movie (A WINNING MOVE IF TRUE) turning a cost to Disney+ to a HUGE money maker for Disney's movie business.

According to Google:
The 2025 live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch had a production budget of $100 million, with an additional $100 million spent on worldwide marketing and distribution. This brings the total budget to $200 million.

Therefore the Box office only needs about 400M to break even.

This will be easily done and should make 800M or more at the box office.

I agree with all that except this is the one Disney film I am not interested in…. Believe that one…. Stitch has always annoyed me

I was referring to the poster who was spoiling the ending as if that would drive people away…. This is going to be a juggernaut whether it gets my money or not

So yes meaning of words matters especially within a context, and the way you put it made it seem that it was overly negative which it wasn't.

Oh I know that it doesn't ultimately matter how bad these things are since it's all about making easily palatable family friendly fare for the masses. Like I know extended family members that took their tween kids to go see the Lion King instead of Godzilla back in Summer 2019.

I'll be seeing it Saturday as a date night with my wife (who loves the original and is essentially Lilo personality-wise)....however I'm really not looking forward to it after Jeremy Jahns' review, which indicated that the emotional heart of the movie (the theme of family bonds and overcoming tragedy), has been ripped out in favor of more "wacky aliens try to catch Stitch" antics (because that worked out *so well* in Tomorrowland).

I suppose "Ohana" these days just means "overpriced character breakfast at the Poly and you better exit through the gift shop".

I'm not sure what movie that reviewer saw. There were tears flowing in our theater - at least there were from me, my 10 yo daughter, and some woman behind us who was sobbing at one point.

I'm not saying this was necessary, but it was really darn good. Funny with heart.

I said your post came across that way to me, not that you explicitly said that. Again use my examples, if I said I had a "not great" weekend you wouldn't assume it was a mostly positive or even an average weekend you'd assume I had a bad weekend and wonder why. Maybe this is a regional thing where you come from that its got a different meaning, but for my area "not great" never has a positive or even average meaning behind it, its always negative. I don't think I've ever heard anyone in my life say "not great" to mean anything other than something negative until you posted today.

Anyways, enough of the linguistics for today, yes it's risen since you originally posted, and I expect it to continue to rise a bit more as additional reviewers post.
