Lilo and Stitch live-action remake

Seems like it may be a difficult week for them going up against Mission Impossible. I would've chosen a different week to start my movie, but that's just me.
Stitch will rule the weekend…. If anything Mission Impossible has hampered themselves again…. Lilo and Stitch are taking most of the premium screenings in my market since it is expected to open on top…. This is over a film that was literally filmed for IMAX…. Granted I don’t have any AMC’s near me so maybe it is different with actual IMAX theaters

I think I saw reports that MI has the IMAX screens while Stitch has the Dolby screens, so effectively splitting the premium screens.

It looks like it's just the same movie as the 2D one. So I'm just going to rewatch the 2D one.
I could see this being a small factor with adults but I think kids (young and old) are going to be begging their parents to see this, the cute factor is off the charts and I think this is going to be the “must see” movie of 2025 like Barbie was last year.

Ahhh…ok… my market is mostly Marcus theaters…. Their premium screens are called ultra screen….they almost always put what ever the biggest movie of the weekend is in those…. As they are the largest theaters… Stitch is playing most of the day…. With Mission Impossible getting only 1 or 2 showtimes at most of the theaters…Granted I am sure the near 3 hour runtime does not help

That must be their equivalent to the IMAX, similar to how Cinemark has their "XD" and Regal and their "RPX" screens.

Just checked and the cinemark by me has 2 XD screens, 1 playing Stitch all day (as well as another regular theater) and the other has MI all day (as well as another regular theater), Stitch does have top billing on their website though, he’s what pops up when you open their webpage.

The one near me is the same, so that sort of confirms what I read which is they are splitting premium screens. Thanks for the confirmation.

I have to say, the commercials and promotion are winning me over. It’s one of the least offensive cgi jobs I’ve seen, and I’m finding Stitch entertaining and endearing for the first time. I have never seen the original, nor had any interest. Driving the Barbie-esque car was a hoot.

Reminds me of both Gizmo and Grogu.
The original is great. Awesome, even. Please make time to watch it.

Re the "live action" version, from what I'm seeing on the promos, I'm liking the CGI characters better than the actual people, when compared to the original animated version. Stitch looks adorable (and really, is he supposed to?) Jumba, Pleakley, Grand Councilwoman...they all look great. I 💯 agree with you that this is probably the best CGI job ever.

Not to be mean or anything, but that little girl doesn't look anything like what I imagined "Lilo come to life" would look like. And what about Tia Carrere?? She's got a voice role, but seriously downgraded (ok, ok, many years have passed and she could no longer be seen as the big sister). And why couldn't Ving Rhames continue as Cobra Bubbles?

Enjoy the movie. I'll maybe (maybe) watch it on Disney+.

I still question the need to have made a live action version of this move.

Just looking at presales for Friday showings. Stitch is looking at a lot of full screenings. Mission Impossible is looking very empty in smaller screens. I'll see both but Stitch first.

i have a feeling stitch pulls ahead of MI as well. i’m a fan of the MI movies & i’ll have to look this up, but i think the last few movies opened somewhere in the $50-70 million range. i could be wrong. i just see stitch doing better than that. we plan on watching both next tuesday.

I’m seeing Mission Impossible first on Friday, followed by Lilo and Stitch on Saturday. I was checking the ticket sales for both at my local AMC and both seem to be doing not well. However, this theater usually isn’t big on pre-sales, except for the biggest tentpoles.

I understand that feeling when you already love a movie. I will never - ever watch Depp Wonka for that reason.

I love animated films. As an adult, I feel more connected to human actors. I think the Stitch CGI works because it’s good at making something resembling a stuffed animal or muppet. Hmm…maybe like the stop-motion Rudolph type stuff, which really appeals to me. It feels more real/believable.

I have no preconceived notions of what Lilo looks like, and she seems cute enough in the trailers. She was on TV the other day, and was that slightly annoying overly precocious child actor - but they can’t realize that at that age.

I’m going to intentionally watch the new one first, and then the original (if I like the new one) and see how it goes.

I wonder if Ving's lack of involvement was due to MI? Or money. It's probably both. He's both clearly still acting and didn't mind reprising the role post-first film, so either somebody made an odd choice or there were things outside their control which made it improbable.
