Lights on RNRC?

We're watching Modern Marvels (taped in 2005) and the shots they have of the RNRC show flashing/moving colored lights (like a concert stage) throughout the ride. Every time we have been on RNRC it has been dark (with the exception of the light-up signs). Does anyone know what happened to the lights? They look like a cool effect.

That's Paris's RNRC -- all of the billboards and street-effects are gone in the Paris version -- the entire ride is designed with stage lighting effects and lighting bars (those metal cross-beam supports you see at rock concerts) and none of the "on the road to" design elements that MGM uses.

Quite often you`ll also see shots of the interior with work lights on - again this is more often that not WDSP. Look for a double ring of lights the track passes through - like installed in SM at DLC for Rockin` - for the giveaway.

This is very common.

I believe it was the Walt Disney Studios Paris version even though they were talking about the MGM version.

This "switching of ride footage" is seen a lot when they advertise the WDW version of Space Mountain, but it is clearly the Disneyland version because many times you will see the passengers sit two across instead of one behind the other like in WDW.

In Florida, when they were showing the Holiday Snowman commercial, it was advertising the WDW parks, yet Indiana Jones Adventure, and Disneyland's version of Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain could clearly be seen.

I guess they use the Paris version in the advertising because there is more lighting to film the train and then they won't have to use the fake virtual version used in other commercials. :)

The Paris version is intended to be more along the lines of a symbolic "ride through a rock concert", as opposed to the Florida version which is a trip through Hollywood to the concert.

An interesting note about the Pairs version, to go with each trains individual soundtrack, each train has its' own corresponding lighting. They designed five different lighting programs. The ride knows which train is launching, and runs the appropriate lighting scheme for that train.
