Lights of Winter - Bleh!

Anyone else not excited to hear that Lights of Winter will return, yet again, to Epcot for the Holidays Around the World?

Those arches have seen better days, and technology has come a long way since then. Plus, the Osbourne lights put it to shame.

I would love to walk into Epcot and have new christmas decor rather then the same faded tree with the christmas notes in various languges, glittery globes that are cracked and the sparkles are falling off of, and the not-so-pretty-in-daylight Lights of Winter removed. Oh! Also, can we PLEASE get a new audio loop? Manaheim Steamroller's Carol of the Bells with synth chords gets grating after the 15th time hearing it in an hour.

Along those lines - SSE reopens November 13th, but they'll replace the area music with Christmas music by the 23rd.. So much for that upgrade, eh?

Anyone else want a new fangled Epcot christmas?

Just for you, Merf, the brand new Windows Live Local satellite imagery of EPCOT includes the Lights of Winter Arches up along the walkway toward World Showcase.

The Lights of Winter are my favorite thing about the holidays at WDW. Last year I watched them for an hour while waiting for the Inferno Barge burn-off. I love them, especially when the music loop changes after Christmas and it starts to play Yanni's Standing in Motion.

Sorry you don't like them, Merf!

They are BEAUTIFUL!

I LOVE them..I can sit there and watch them and listen to the music forever..:)

Merf...I personally believe you should take some time away from The World...it seems to me that you complain more then you praise...

If you notice the little things like sparkles coming off and things needing to be painted then you are looking way into things.

Things may not be perfect but most of us just enjoy being there when we can and seem to overlook the small things and focus on the fun and the feelings we have just seeing those lights and listening to the music and just enjoying the magic..:)

I know I do..:)

So will anyone else volunteer to help kidnap Merf and do a real life Christmas carol on him so he will get into the Christmas spirit?.:D

I personally LOVE the Lights of Winter and it is one of my favourite Christmas things in Disney World. They could replace Mannheim Steamroller with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, though. :) I also love riding the monorail through the Lights of Winter.

Merf, instead of inspecting every Christmas decoration for flaws, why don't you just sit back and enjoy the beauty and spirit of the season?

So, no, I don't want a new fangled Epcot Christmas.

*sigh* I guess it's true that most people don't notice.. but last year the audio system failed often, the posts for the lights were rusted, and they broke the lighting system in the planters on the bridge and it stayed broken until about April.

I'd be much happier if they were kept up better, we got new music (i seriously cannot stand the Epcot christmas loop for future world), and I want new tree decor.

The current decor is old-old. I know they do a 5-year rotation, but Epcot's tree has not held up well.

I can just see the article in the Orlando Sentinel now:

Dec. 1, 2007
CRAZY GUEST DRAGGED FROM EPCOT CHRISTMAS TREE

The man was spotted climbing the large Epcot Christmas tree and seemed to be trying to replace many of Disney's official ornaments. Police were seen taking boxes for evidence filled with ornaments themed with original Epcot logos and tons of fresh paint and glitter. As the man was dragged away, witnesses reported hearing him yelling incoherently. One woman described the scene: "He was yelling things like 'But, the sparkles were coming off', 'Not the same Christmas loop', and 'Rusty poles, I tell you, rusty poles'"

Just teasing, merf - I couldn't help myself!

The only thing I like about Christmas at Disney is the snow on Main Street--that brought tears to my eyes.

The rest of it they can keep--the Christmas changes (esp the music) alter my Disney experience to a point that sort of irritates me.

I was totally underwhelmed by the whole Osborne deal--I'm not sure I understand why everyone likes it so much. We have much larger and more professional displays here in Ohio.

I was happy to see it once and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party was really fun for my son, but besides that I don't visit during the holiday season.
