charging for FP in the aspect of the extra 3 concierge deluxe were allowed or charging in regards of genie? either way Genie is awful & FP was no way near this inferior... so again what gives and again if ILL is causing this charge 10 more and include it w genie or as ive stated maybe allowing people to choose times made this system more viable but again speaking for myself resort guests never had issues booking and adding on in parks were always an option so again still cant grasp how genie is such a debacle and how they didnt see it coming w ALL the data they have
No…they drastically increased ticket prices in that “free era”

When fastpass debuted…a one day ticket was $42.52 with tax. Annuals were $199/$299 I believe?

Check the scoreboard in 2010? How about 2013 (fp+)? How bout 2019?

You had lowered expectations…Bob did it intentionally.

You just probably didn’t track it over time.

Also…you never paid for fastpass+ In a line item.
The psychology is different.

Imagine if they charged you $5 a pop for splash, tiki room and the barnstormer in 2017. You would have been ****ed. And then you could search the website for the rest of the day for the leftovers and occasionally grab a released by fate big thunder mountain.

That’s exactly what + would have been with the fee.

The genie - ridiculous as it is - makes you mad upfront paying…but also provides the benefits of a deterrent.

But you have to rig it. I did last week. Did I want to pay? Hell no. Did i think for a second I could get around it? Hell no

Please…I worked in guest services, revenue and sales in the swamp. You can’t “get around” a revenue system. The only way that ever happens is if it’s REJECTED immediately and publicly. That didn’t happen here.
Ive stated countless times Ive NEVER had a problem obtaining a FP for any ride as a resort guest at basically any time i wanted pre noon 1130-1230 latest slot OTHER THAN Frozen when it opened that include FoP , 7DMT, SDD etc and the Frozen issue was literally resolved with a courtesy email to Guest Services asking how someone's window can open up who is going for 8-9 days and on every day it not being available.... I received a phone call and the lady gave me not one but 2 FP to ride on both my days at any time i wanted. thats i guess when Disney actually cared & tried to make magic happen...

Oh TRUST me ive been saying that countless times FP was not "free" same with ME same with resort transport, same with parking before they actually charged... it was already baked into the room or ticket prices.... now they have literally removed everything except buses and charging extra for the rest... so im under NO illusion we werent paying for it already hence why one of my prior suggestions were to keep it "free' & just increase prices incrementally for certain things and and allocate that money to FP revenue.....

Well you have some secret. Because first you would have had to line them up exactly 1 hour apart starting at opening to maximize the “extras” after. Second..:you would have to hover over the thing for hours to search for all but the useless stuff that NEVER should have had fastpass and caused a lot of the problem to begin with..:

I mean…I was probably only in parks 150 days Or so during the + era…so my experience was rather limited.

Are you local and rocking Tuesdays in September?

ok…but then you gotta stopped hinting how “great” free fastpass is/was and the genie has to suck cause it’s paid

Once again, reservation and virtual queue systems require extra capacity outside of the reservation system in order to function. Every missing meet and greet, or shuttered gift shop or understaffed snack stand reduces the ability to offer reservations.

Does anyone remember what the old FP+ Tier 1 rides were? The ones where you could only pre reserve a pass at one of them and not multiple?

The only one I'm remembering is EPCOT Test Track and Soarin.

As much as I disliked G+ overall, our arrival travel day was an EPCOT day. We got Test Track reserved before we took off. Soarin when we landed. The Land while walking out of Soarin (which was immediate and avoided a 30 minute line). Earth while walking to Nemo (walk on) which saved about 12 people worth of line. Figment while on Earth, saving 0 people of line.

I think that was it, Remi and Frozen were not an option at all. So, while it clearly wasn't great, we did get two FP+ Tier 1 rides all after 2:00 as we just winged it.

Avoiding some rain, we hopped back the second day and got the Guardians virtual queue at 2:30 PM for just after 8:00 PM ride. Then, through some shear luck scored a Remi LL for 3:30 PM. We waited an hour for Frozen, mostly to avoid the rain and kill time anyway. Nobody wanted to ride MS. This meant we got do all the rides in EPCOT and only waited in one line. It also meant we still had to tap in on our other park reservation day just to get breakfast, then we hopped to MK after 2:00 without spending any time in EPCOT. Second park reservation was in case we didn't get Guardians and also had to rope drop Remi, neither of which was needed then.

How many hours would you spend in the park on those days? When people talk about stand-by only they typically assume the capacity to actually support such operations which would mean being able to do ten attractions in about 7 hours.

I'm trying to remember the old hours between 2016-2019 (when my wife and I were childless and traveled for work, which is when we were going a lot). I want to say MK and EP were both usually open until 11p back then.

I'd guess anywhere between 8-9 hours. However, we aren't ride crazy guests. We very much go at a leisurely pace, spending a decent amount of time eating and drinking (non-MK parks). Plus, we liked to park hop, so it wasn't unusual for us to hit up three parks each day.

A typical day for us could look like:

Animal Kingdom Morning (all stand-by):
  • Everest
  • Safari
  • Dinosaur
  • Bonus: Drinks at Dawa Bar
Head over to Magic Kingdom:
  • FP+ Selections:
    • BTMM
    • Splash
    • Space
  • PeopleMover
  • Carousel of Progress
  • Refresh app and see what you can get (maybe a Buzz or Pirates or Jungle)
Head back to resort for pool/pool bar/lunch

Epcot Evening:
  • Get Soarin' or Test Track FP+ by refreshing app
  • Spaceship Earth
  • Watch Illuminations (or hit the ride we didn't get a FP+ for)

Im from NY and would go once a year a couple times made 2 trips. Normally end of summer then started week of thanksgiving or week after. Been there columbus week and presidents week as well. I never had issues getting rides from 9-10 1005-1105 then 1110-1210. And at times lucky enough to moveup my last window or if a ride had no real line cxl my 1st FP and book another. Ive stated i have been lucky w some extra ME FP on some trips i also have DAS but honestly those were more used for a reride especially in the days you had to walk up to the ride itself. Like i said. Maybe im lucky but for most part with FP after the 3rd i was always able to get solid rides and within a nice timeframe. Last year of FP i vividly remember literally going on ToT multiple timesin a row using FP as people were waiting in long lines. So yes obviously some days were weekdays but some weekends. I dk what else to say. This was my experience. I have no reason to lie. I been following these boardsbasically since the beginning didnt get anaccount until years later and honestly never even posted until the Genie/FP debate and the Splash debate….

The tiering proved fastpass+ didn’t work the MINUTE they rolled it out.

It was mgm and Epcot

Tier 1 was test track, soarin and frozen
At Epcot

And studios I think it was initially tower, RNRC and midway…then they dropped tower once dinky dash opened?

But that’s much less than you can get for the genie - sadly

And not a good return on ticket price. You just weren’t smacked in the face with the price like a wet fish.

It’s psychology.

And to be clear: I’m not a park pounder. I’m a sit down and bar kinda cat (pun intended)…the genie made more park time advantageous…I hate to say

I never said genie sucks bc its paid. I said it sucks bc it in fact sucks and is awful. And again. Imo FO was great and did exactly what it was suppose to do for a resort guest based in MY experience.
Honestly…then your story or “always getting what you wanted” just doesn’t match up. There’s some details missing to justify how big the fish is compared to what you say it is.

Okay so then they should have went complete standby using this logic and the debate could have been settled once and for all. Or heres an idea open up the shuttered rides attractions shops shows entertainment longer hours and what not!!!! The excuses being made to defend them or justify things are baffling to me.

How doesnt it add up? I would be able to choose any ride i wanted at any given park when my resort window opened up excluding Frozen already explained. FoP genuinely was a later one 1130-12 say and it didnt matter bc we always ate at Tusker House so actually worked out great. I have DAS but again never really needed it and it was used more for a reride or a gap filler for something quick but rarely as a ride we didnt have. Ive also said ive had some “bad things” happen and been given ME passes on some if my trips but not all. Again. This is what ive been lucky enough to do. My daughter who is 8 and been there i think 9 times honestly hasnt had to wait on a line once. Barnstormer was our longest 30 minutes when she was just tall enough to ride. Again maybe i was lucky. I dont know but this was my experience. Dont forget im there anywhere from 8-10 days so i have flexibility with my options etc.

What you describe is a good day for the majority of visitors. It is what the parks should have the capacity to offer to everyone. You’re coming in a little under 1.5 per hour but also above the 7 - 8 per day threshold that Disney became obsessed with starting the mid-90s.

You keep conflating understanding with defense.
