Interesting change. I'm guessing that this is because they believe they need more capacity in the Genie+ tier to keep from a scenario where people who buy Genie+ can only get 1-2 decent LL times for headline attractions before they run out for the day.

There are some significant issues brewing around Genie+. I'll have more later.
Let's just file that one away...

I don't get why they just don't make WDW G+ exactly like DL sans photopass. It works so much better in DL. No crazy times to deal with. If you're in the park you can use. If you're not, you can't. Why make it harder than it needs to be?
Because Disneyland is a theme park business with hotels attached. Walt Disney World is a hotel business with theme parks attached.

I wouldn’t want to deal with rope drop/scanning in and securing a LL at the same time. Especially if I had little kids with me. Too chaotic.

No, this is a social experiment and it's likely a different hypothesis. Namely, that they will get more Genie+ revenue by putting everyone in the bucket for those attractions than if they ratcheted those attractions' ILL cost upwards.

Sure, but they are essentially turning away people that would be willing to pay extra to ride an individual attraction. Which would mean... if there is more value in adding it to the Genie+ service than individually, not enough people think Space Mountain is worth the individual fee.

This could be an indicator that the disparity between a tier 1 and tier 2 attraction is bigger than they thought.

With DL G+ you don't necessarily need to rope drop. You don't need to worry about trying to rope drop an attraction that will sell out in seconds on G+. Attractions are available most of the day for all until very late in the day.

So I read on another board - and please, take this for what it's worth- a cast member at a park told a guest that they are changing purchasing ILL from 7 am to 9 am for everyone. But we know how reliable that info can be.

It's hard to believe they would snatch that one baby-perk away from resort guests...but then again it's not that hard to believe, is it?

I wouldn't believe that for the simple reason that Animal Kingdom currently opens at 8 AM, so they'd lose an hour of potential revenue for FOP and Everest every day.

Agreed. 7am is the only time that currently works for all park opens. Although with the move to 60 minute early entry during the next few weeks, there's going to be a lot of people trying to book LL whilst rope dropping. Could lead to all kinds of hilarity. ;)
