Liberty Square - what should be done there?

Ha! I'm a poet and I didn't even know it :-) I've been on many-a-forum discussing sprucing up Tomorrowland. I wholeheartedly agree that it is in major need of energizing, and I have heard numerous wonderful ideas from many people on here for how to go about doing that.

But, in my Frontierland post today, someone brought up Liberty Square. I have to say that I love the theme of Liberty Square, but I have always felt that it's presence in MK was underwhelming. In fact, I bet if you were to ask the average WDW guest, they wouldn't know that Liberty Square is a separate land in the parks.

So, here's my question: what would you suggest to enhance Liberty Square?

I would love to have them turn the steamboat into an attraction featuring Princess and the Frog. I know many people were surprised they didn't turn it into a restaurant for Princess and the Frog. I'm not sure how feasible that really would have been? But, I think it would be cool to have it some jazz music on there that plays while the boat goes around, or something else themed to that movie. The music was really wonderful.

Like I said in the Frontierland post, I think it would also be neat to have people walking around in colonial attire going about the towns business that the guests could interact with. They could have markets and they even could do some fun things with the prisoner's block. I know my kids really love that kind of thing, and it seems so simple to me to have that type of presence in the area.

Interactive characters such as George Washington, Ben Franklin, Paul Revere, John Paul Jones, Betsy Ross ... so many more to choose from. They could provide stories, lessons about life in colonial times and the formation of our country. Maybe then our kids could learn something about history in a fun way. Exhibits showcasing colonial crafts and toys. Disney had made some wonderful historical pieces that I remember fondly that could be used as a starting place.

Liberty Square is a tough one because it's a smaller land as compared to the others. When I looked up The Diamond Horseshoe, I was suprised to see it listed under Liberty Square and not Frontierland.

I don't know if it would be possible, but it would be neat to have Hall of Presidents turned into a dark ride and take you through time from the birth of our country to present times.

Wow! I didn't realize that Diamond Horseshoe was considered Liberty Square!! I guess it is on the other side of the tunnel to Adventureland?

Like Liberty Square, there are plenty of small lands at other Disney parks such as Critter Country in both DLR and TDL. I think Liberty Square is fine the way it is.

Liberty Square Dance Party with presidents!!:p

Even joking about dance parties freaks me out, they're so aggravating (especially the incredibly loud one in Hollywood Studios).

As for Liberty Square, I do think something should be done with the boat, make it something at least entertaining, it's just kind of boring. I like that style/design, but it needs something, and not a character meet and greet. Other than that, I really like that area a lot.

My personal (and unpopular) thoughts are to fill in ROA, plow under Tom Sawyer Island (wait...before you stone me), add one E-Ticket and maybe a D ticket ride and build an indoor Liberty Square neighborhood where Tom Sawyer Island was then build a new Tom Sawyer island on the roof above the new indoor area.

Unless they were able to do some kind of expansion or razing, I can't see what they could do there. Even having street performers in period garb seems awkward because it's such a high traffic area as people walk from/to Fantasyland to/from Frontierland/Adventureland.

Maybe the lesser of two evils would be to fold Liberty Square and Frontierland into a land that celebrates (for lack of a better unused phrase) The Spirit of America, from colonial days to Old West, leading up to the early 20th century is celebrated by Main Street.

I know that's more or less one of the reasons why MK's designed this way. But much like "golden oldies" radio stations that used to only play music from the 50s slowly incorporate music from later decades as time moves on, maybe there's a way to rename those two lands with one Olde America theme.

Maybe something inspired by the American Legends shorts (John Henry, Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan, and The Brave Engineer). A character meet and greet similar to Enchanted Tales with Belle, but in the spirit of those shorts.
I would like to see this. Legends have always kind of fascinated me, and I think this could be a perfect interactive element. I remember a few Halloween parties ago, they had a storyteller recite the legend of Sleepy Hollow, and there was also a storyteller on the riverboat. Small things like this can enhance an area that doesn't have a lot of room for expansion. I seem to remember that a lot of people converged around the holiday storytellers at Epcot.

I've never felt that Liberty Square was lacking, but the suggestions for increased human interaction with American history are great. I'd love it if they had an old-fashioned soap box or elevated stump somewhere with periodic pop-up speeches by great American historical figures. Imagine strolling by the Liberty Tree Tavern and seeing a crowd gathered around to hear from Ben Franklin, William Penn, Paul Revere, Abigail Adams or Crispus Attucks. A similar but less elaborate idea would be to have a wandering Town Crier report the news of the day (for Colonial America).
