Liberty Square Riverboat will not be operating normal guest trips for a while

guests will still be able to ride it. if their picked in the morning to do the show right.

This isn't a question.

A question has a question mark (?)

You seem to be making a statement saying that guests will be able to ride.

So does anyone know if guests are being picked to ride during the shows?

My answer is I don't believe so. I think it's just the performers.

will they still pick people from the crowds to participate or is it still just cast members. Ive asked 3 times what is the answer. since their is some on this board that would like to know so we don't have to make any special trips and find out later its not going to happen.
Breathe in. Breathe out. Aaaaaaah, that's better.

Also....that poor boat. A classic piece of brilliant floating machinery has been PUKED on for no other reason than to OVER promote a film that will likely not do very well at the box office.

It's a shame we have to be so cryptic here.

Obviously something went wrong that wasn't planned, and Magic Kingdom management no longer feels safe letting guests onboard and using the boat for its intended and designed purpose of transporting people around the Rivers of America. It could be a boiler issue, a wood rot issue, a structural issue, a mechanical load issue, or any number of logistical or safety related concerns. Too bad WDW doesn't have an Al Lutz to just come out and spill the beans for us.

But there's nothing else going on with WDW's Rivers of America except that lone riverboat. It's not like Disneyland where there's a Sailing Ship Columbia and a fleet of canoes to pick up the slack. If WDW parks the Liberty Belle for good then a hugue chunk of the park real estate will be shuttered and inaccesible to paying guests. They need to get a fix there soon, or just fill in the Rivers of America with sand and stop paying for mosquito abatement.

My answer is I don't believe so. I think it's just the performers.

Reports indicate that DLR is indeed picking 50 or so guests for each trip to ride on the boat, and get a special meet and great while it goes around the island. No idea if this is carried over to WDW, especially where it is closed other than for the show. But they might..

I don't think the maintence issue is something unfixable just they're unable to right now because of the show. So instead further damaging the boat by doing multiple trips a day they just do the 3 for the show right now. I'm sure after the show ends that they'll do the work that is needed and it'll be sailing again in no time. And also they were picking guests when the show first opened to ride on the boat and be part of the show so I don't think they would of stopped that. I just have no idea how the guests are selected.

Fortunately, I still have contacts in Liberty Square. Here's the story:

There is an issue with a section of the riverboat that needs repair that wasn't needed during the last refurb. They can't take it out of service since they just started this long promotion for the new movie. For safety, they will be only running the 3 required shows to not stress the part. They are trying to do a temp solution, but it looks like it will need to go to dry dock for the repair which they can't do until the show's over.

Now please stop speculating that they are going to permanently dock the boat or whatever crazy stories you can come up with.

Thank you.

I am glad I read all the way though before answering.

I was going to speculate that maybe there is something wrong with the stern wheel. Something like a bent pushrod. It's not a safety hazard, but if it breaks, then she is dead in the water.

That explains it perfectly. Lets not overstress the part by running multiple trips, but hopefully it will hold out for the 3 trips per day required for the show. Come Jan 3, back it goes into the shop.

Occam's Razor wins again.

Oh, whoever suggested it, don't bother calling Disney about the Branson Bell, it's air draft is too high to use anywhere except on SSL/BL (112 feet) It does only pull 7 feet of draft, which is shallow enough for SSL/BL (I believe)

What's the section that needs repair?

At least this promotion fits the theme and isn't generic like a pre -arade or standard meet and greet would be. Promotion is all part of the mix, and at least this is a new way of doing it.

What makes you say the film will do badly? Looks like a winner on this end..

Just got back from the World, and on Wednesday, just as ms7479a stated, the boat was swarming with managers and others, and they were definately checking out the paddle wheel. To the point they were taking tape measurers to it.

It isn`t that crazy, nor clear cut. Hopefully things will stay as normal for a long time.

Wow, didn't know our font could go that large, interesting. And FYI that large font won't do anything but make the people who do know stuff angry, they can be kind of touchy when you yell at them:lookaroun
