I thought it was just the access canal behind Big Thunder - isn`t the dry dock by the boneyard on Bay Lake?

She was moved again and is now at the Bay Lake dry dock near the contemporary. Good quick thinking on your part. Kudos! :)

This is music to my ears. The Cast Members are telling us the truth: there have been several 'incidents' on the Riverboat over the course of the past year. Everyone be happy that there will be a safe Riverboat in spring, 06.

Isn't there another boat to take it's place during the rehab?

When I was in DLP this summer there was a cheaper 'standby' boat in use and you could see the nice steamer in rehab off the river. I have no idea on the story on this one, I am just telling you what I saw.

This stinks, every year I try and do the haunted boat ride and miss it for one reason or another. I was going to do it this year....oh well, I'll just have to wait another year then.

Does anyone have any pics of the lake crossing?

The canal that is being talked about is this the canal that the Water Pagent barges are parked during the day. Did they actually take the Liberty Bell out into The Seven Seas Lagoon over the water bridge into Bay lake and then up into the dry dock?

There used to be two riverboats, the other one had a mishap with her keel and later had her hull shattered when she fell after they tried lifting her at the drydock, hence why we only have the liberty now.

People are going to really miss her during MNSSHP :/

The Liberty Belle is still (as of 8pm on 9/20) behind the Swing Bridge by Thunder Mountian. Any rumors that she has been moved to dry dock are false. The riverboat can travel across Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon under her own power with the assistance of a tug (usually a pontoon boat or in the past a Keelboat). Her single smokestack is just able to clear the underside of the monorail beams between MK & GF.

As Celestia mentions there was a rehab incident with one of the original boats "The Joe Fowler" she was outfitted with a Fiberglass hull that did in fact break beyond repair during sudden change in altitude during that rehab. The boat was scrapped from the hull up and some of the pieces were used as decoration and theming around the parks.

The 2nd boat Richard F. Irvine/Liberty Belle has a steel hull. The Liberty Belle is a new boat built on the original Irvine hull. There is still an Irvine tribute deep in the "heart" of the Belle.

Isn't one of the Ferries from the transportation center now named the "Richard F. Irvine"?

Yes there is a Richard F. Irvine ferryboat that runs between TTC & Magic Kingdom. The other 2 ferryboats are the Adm. Joe Fowler & The Gen. Joe Potter.

Adm. Joe Fowler

Joseph Fowler, born on July 9, 1894, in Lewiston, Maine, graduated second in his class at the U.S. Naval Academy, in 1917 and earned a Master's Degree, in 1921 from MIT. A veteran of both World Wars, Rear Admiral Joe Fowler retired in 1948 from the U.S. Navy and started his next career with Walt Disney Productions in 1954.

Assigned to oversea construction of Disneyland, Fowler would also managed its early operations. Fifteen years later he would take on the task of building Walt Disney World. Senior VP of WDP, Chairman of the Board of WED and Director of Disney's Buena Vista Construction Company, Fowler's "can do" attitude never faulted. Fowler's Harbor in Frontierland is named appropriately.

Joe Fowler retired from Disney in 1978 and was named a Disney Legend in 1990.

Admiral Joseph Fowler passed away on December 3, 1993 at age 99

Gen. Joe Potter

The work began with the site prep, led by General Joe Potter who—through his experience commanding huge projects for the Army Corps of Engineers—had the necessary expertise to transform the land from wetlands to a verdant resort.

While I don't have specific information about Richard F. Irvine, he too was one of the principle builders of the Magic Kingdom.
