I wonder which way the wheel will turn?

It depends on what they want to depict. Overshot and backshot water wheels are typically used where the available height difference is more than a couple of meters. Breastshot wheels are more suited to large flows with a moderate head. Undershot and stream wheel use large flows at little or no head. Florida is pretty flat.

Buckets would be different, this is overshot that was run backwards for quite a period of time (months?). I suspect someone made a wee mistake hooking up the wiring. You know how newfangled e-lectricity is on the island right?

Here’s a closer look at the repaving and (new) rockwork in front of Harper’s Mill. Lots of the shrubs and plants previously there were ditched for some new rocks. Looks pretty awesome imo!!

Note the red box and mini-barrel was moved all the way to the right. Although the rope previously hung next to the door is now gone.

The way the "buckets" on the wheel are built the top of the wheel is designed to rotate towards the river.

I apologize, I do see that, however ineffective its height is, it still exists.
Not trying to make it work just trying to make it look like it would work

edit: might even be the reason they have so much trouble with the motor. If the water spun it too much from poor control of the flow it could overspeed it, has to be some kind of slip coupling.

A simple centrifugal clutch would take care of that.
