Letting WDW take over your life?

WDW taking over you life???

I can't think of anything better that to have WDW take over my life. What a nice thing to bring your kids up LOVING WDW. It's a lot better than some of the things that kids worship these days. I've been to WDW 24 times in the last 10 years and still haven't had enough. Times are a little tough right now but sometimes if I didn't have WDW to occupy my mind I would probably lose it.

This couldn't be a more appropriate thread for me to post to today...

My wife and I have been having some tough times (moneywise). For me, this site (among others) bring a smile to my face at a time when "real" life doesn't give me many.

Things have started to look a little better as of late, and we;ve started looking into a short trip this August with a couple friends of ours. My wife is a Disney Store castmember, so the vacation wouldn't really cost much at all, and we really NEED a fix of the MAGIC.

So, last night we're eating dinner late, talking about the trip, even worse, we both get into bed, and proceeded to talk for another HOUR AND A HALF about a trip which we having even decided we are doing for sure. Both of us overslept this morning, I was late to work, and my wife was running late.

We probably shouldn't go, but since we can swing it without effecting our bill-paying ability, it looks like we may just do it.

Are we crazy? Maybe....

But, we are willing to give up a few dinners out, CDs, DVDs and other non-essentials to get us to the World.

If something can make someone so happy, can it REALLY be that bad???

I really can't see what the harm is in going to WDW for YOUR vacations. If you really want to lower yourself to their level, ask them what hobbies they have, or things they like to do oftern, and then ridicule them. I get some of the same comments from some of my friends about WDW, and Disney in general, and I simply reply back, "It's what we like, and what we like to do. I don't belittle you for like to do, and I expect the same courtesy from you".

Sorry if I seem a little bitter about this, it just really bugs me when people ridicule our love of WDW, simply because they don't like it.

Funny, I was starting to think the same thing. The more we do Disney, the more we want to. This year will be nuts, 3 trips with in 10 months. (all with child under 3!), hey she is free!!!!!!!! Thank God for an AP this year. We don't plan on getting one every year, and plan to take some time off next year (maybe have a second kid, who knows?) We need to let our DVC points build up too, all borrowed out! :lol:

DarkImage4, we feel the same way. My hubby and I talk about our trips, (past and future) all the time. We joke about what would you do if we were at WDW right now? It is a bit over the edge, and I am starting to feel we are living from trip to trip, but hey, it is fun and everyone has to have something!

My father in law spends all his money on toy trains. Odd, yes, But it's harmless and it brings him happiness.

My husband, son age 14 and daughter age 11 go every year like clockwork. We have a certain week we like to be there and plan for it. I figure we don't have any other hobbies so go for it! My husband and I came down for our honeymoon 16 years ago and loved it! WDW became our "special" place. We waited until our kids were old enough and then started coming down every year. Sometime we've been "bad" and come down 2 or 3 times a year depending on our budget. We love it down there and are funding our 401K's so that we come move down there and work for the mouse in the off season! Yes we are obsessed!

Yes a friend of mine was talking about going on their first trip to Disney, they have 2 kids 7 & 9 yrs old and she went to a travel agent and was told it would cost $10,000 for the family of 4 and thats not spending money! So they aren't going for another year! I said I would make the arrangements for their family and ours for that much money! We have never spent that kind of money and we were there for 2 weeks on our last trip w/5 kids and stayed onsite! I am a bargain hunter!

You should definitely do what you want and what makes you happy.

I play on going to wdw as many times as possible. and it's my money, so i can do whatever i want to do. It's just like a hobby.

As long as it makes you happy, there's no reason you shouldn't do it.

i just hope my future wife will be able to put up with it all.

I LOVE WDW! I'll admit I love it more than my husband, but when our kids were younger, we took them every year without fail. It was a week of guaranteed family fun. OK, it was expensive, but it was also worth it!

Don't worry about being "obsessed" - you just love the place, and can't wait to get back! As long as you're not sticking up your local bank to pay for it, go and have fun! You'll never regret it.

Whoever told them it would cost 10k is nuts I could spend at least a month for 10k! I find this board is like a help group for us WDw addicts.....now we need to come up with a 12 step program!!!

Someone said in an earlier post in this thread(I can't be bothered to find it now)that if I could not have a happy life if I did not go to Disney anymore, then there might be a problem with Disney taking over my life.

Well, I admit it--I would NOT be happy at all if I knew that I could never go to Disney again. The more I go, the more I WANT to go.

I guess I need therapy.

I've read everyones post and it sounds like I could have written them. I love Disney World. I check my countdown clock every day. (Only 204 days BTW) I am already planning my next trip in the spring of 2004 and Summer 2004.
