Conventional wisdom is that one doesn't go to WDW in the summer because of the heat and crowds.

Right at this moment, 5:55 CDT in Kansas City, it is
97 degrees
101 heat index
dew point 67
relative humidity 37%

in Orlando it is
83 degrees
88 heat index
dew point 74
relative humidity 74%

tomorrow's forecast for Orlando is 87 degrees; it will be 97 in KC.

Don't you love midwestern weather--it's actually cooler in Florida than in Kansas!!

Right now in NY (about 40 miles north of the city)

82 degrees, 52 % humidity. It's overcast and threatening to rain.
Will be in WDW the first week in Aug.

I definitely agree with mkt. Monday night I came home from Leesburg, and it was about 11:30pm and it rained about 4 hours ago. The ouside thermometer in my family's car said about 76 degrees, and it felt like about 80 degrees or more. So it's hot here too.

Ah yes, but look at the humidity. Our humidity makes it feel like you're in a steam room. I've lived in hot dry areas before and I prefer it to being hot and wet here.

People just don't realize the humidty we have in the gulf coastal states until they come here in the summer.

It's NASTY.

When I moved from Hawaii to Louisiana the people in Louisiana would always say "How could you stand the heat in Hawaii?"

I looked at them like they were crazy, when I stepped off the plane it felt like I entered a sauna in New Orleans!

Sure the temperatures in HI were in the 80's and 90's but it felt NICE -- there was no humidity!

Plus, the gulf coast with summer temps frequently above 100 plus 80 - 90% humidity... ack people drop dead for less.

Give me Kansas City with 101 and 37% humidty any summer day over 85 degrees and 80% humidity here in florida.

I can do the heat...it's the humidity that gets me everytime. I have trouble breathing. I remember the first time we came out of the Orlando Airport...thought I was going to die!

ps. right now its 59 degrees with 84% humidity.

I thought the heat index took into account the humidity- :veryconfu

Anyway- I would take a dry 110 in Phoenix over a humid 90 in Chicago any day.

The summer my husband was deployed in Beriut, and I was pregnant with The Daughter, my family talked me into coming up to RI to get away from the heat. There were a record number of 100+ days that July, and NO central A/C in their house! (RI isn't exactly dry, either. ) Boy did I wish I had stayed in Florida!

And Erika, I believe the index includes the humidity, so that you get a better sense of how the weather "feels."

I've been skiing out west in -0 temperatures and felt quite comfortable. I've been walking here in 30 degree weather and froze my buns off. (Maybe THAT'S where they went! ;) )
