Len Testa - “Disney positions itself as the all-American vacation. The irony is that most Americans can’t afford it.”

Our first trip 15 years ago was 10 nights at the Poly with deluxe dining 2 adults and 2 kids and it was 5300. I priced out the same trip with regular dining since they don't have deluxe and it 15,500. The cheapest trip I could find for the same amount of time was at the All Star resort and that was 7800 with regular dining. To get the trip down to 5300 I had to shorten the trip to 5 nights at All stars with the dining plan. So 10 nights at Poly with deluxe dining in 2010 is now equal to 5 nights at All stars with regular dining plan.
I would rather not go then stay at a value resort.
I dont get the hate on Value especially if you are looking to save money… people talk like Disney Deluxe resorts are some 5 star gems…. They are anything. People who feel this way need to travel more often.

I just pulled a file for one of my clients. They travelled in Sept 2008. 2 adults at the Contemporary garden wing room, 6 day park hopper, deluxe dining, insurance & tax
$3,238.26

Thats a bad example considering we were in the middle of a deep recession & off memory Disney was discounting. Either way we were as i said in middle of a major recession.

I've traveled all over the world and trust me I'm not staying at motels with no amenities. I can stay at a much nicer hotel for the price of a Disney Value. I have nothing against Value hotels. Universals are acceptable at least they have indoor corridors and a gym. That wasn't the point of my post though. The point was to show the difference in cost since 15 years ago.

That's not the point at all. Nobody's "Hating" on Value, we are simply pointing out how what used to be an affordable WDW vacation at a WDW branded "Deluxe" is hardly possible now at a WDW branded "Value".

I don’t think it’s a “hate” on value…more a recognition that now with the price increases there is little choice for some
Demos than to pay “more for less”…as it were

Sadly Spirit is not an option for me with my back issues

TIL flying Spirit: The armrests don't move - you have to slide across them to get to a middle or window seat. And if you're not careful you'll catch your leg.

I mentioned it to the flight attendant and they said they call the resultant bruises "Spirit thighs."

There's a t-shirt design there, I just know it.

The weirdest thing about it is they tried to buy frontier a couple of years ago…then I think JetBlue tried to buy them?

The flailing is indicative of how screwed up the airline business really is. Now they can’t pay for gas.

And as always…we all lose. Southwest has SUCKED…outloud…since they bought valuejet (old people might get that reference 🐊)…

Must be nice to be as unsuccessful as an airline and get to still profit, huh?

Just going to throw this out there, the longer you stay, the more you need park hoppers.
Park hoppers vastly reduce the stress and bustle for the traveler…especially on the longer trips

Since I dabbled in this kind a talk once…I can assure you they once knew the benefit of that…which is why it was $5 a day. People were HAPPIER and spent more time and money in the parks.

Now they charge your 3 year old $60 a day for it.

Math ain’t mathin’

Many people not having indoor hallways are a deal breaker for them.

Strange. They always go up and down for me.

Then stay off site if its that big a deal. People cant complain its too expensive then complain they dont want to stay at more affordable options. You cant have it both ways. I never knew an outdoor hallway was a deal breaker at Disney. Never even thought of it either on all the years ive stayed
