Lego Zipper update

Hi Everyone,

I thought I would give a bit of an update on my latest project, The Zipper. So far so good! I am currently testing different types of rims on the boom wheels to see what works best for moving all the bogeys around with the least friction etc. The boom is still mounted on the temporary stands in order to facilitate ease of design/build. Translation? Back pain is not my idea of fun!
I have installed temporary cables or tracks to move the bogeys, but will eventually go with black string for looks. Also, some of the colors that I use while prototyping are not right, but will change to the correct ones when I decide on how the build works best.
For those who are interested, enjoy.

:)

Lego Zipper

The second part of this project involves building a support structure for the boom. On the real ride this assembly is incorporated right into the travelling trailer that the ride is moved on. When they get to the next stop, they simply raise the boom support up to the verticle and add the cars. In this case I have decided to do the same. This is the bare bones structure of the trailer, as well as the beginnings of the boom support. Due to the weight of the boom, and all the cars, this support had to be very strong. I am using an aluminum shaft as the hinge pin so to speak, as anything Lego makes would break under these circumstances. In order to make the support stronger I had to build cross supports out of technic bricks and pins within the support structure itself. This gives significant strength.
