Of course they're on sale. I would never pay full price. Again, avoid the lego store for better deals.
That is not always an option. I love the large Star Wars kits (eg Star Destroyer, 5000 piece Millennium Falcon, etc) and I do not think I have ever seen one go on sale.

To make matters worse, the prices skyrocket on the resale market once Lego no longer makes them. The Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon originally sold for $500. You would be hard pressed to find one for under a grand these days.

Ah, yes. UCS sets may not get a "sale" price. I don't really know about those because I'm looking at this topic from a non-UCS POV. Smaller sets $150 or less. Sorry, I should've clarified.

And you're right, the re-sellers are unbelievable. There are web sites that are built around the "investment" and "resale" of Lego. I'm an SWOTAFOL for sure.

couple years ago i hurt my arm and had to do all kinds of rehab. long story short i got myself a couple big lego sets as they were actually good for getting some coordination back, and a fun time killer.

anyway, i got the two pirates of the caribbean ships. awesome stuff. you should see what they cost on ebay now. part of me wishes i just left them in the box, i would have tripled my money easily. but they look great and were fun at the time so they are on my desk instead

My now son in law got me the Super Star Destroyer about 3 years ago. It is still sitting partially assembled in my office. I really need to lock down a weekend and finish that sucker.
