Leaving the park rituals

When you leave Disneyland for the day, what are some of the things you always do? Do you need to look in the stores? Go down the left or right side? Stuff like that.

When I was younger, I always had to get a cherry coke on the way out. I always need to look in the store windows to see the puppet show. Then it is off to the firehouse and exiting on the right side.

Generally we walk through the stores on the west side, candy shop first and end at the Emporium. Usually pick up a treat for all of use, mostly candy or a baked good for the girls. My youngest always wants Mickey gummies, my oldest a cake pop and I get the ultimate chocolate chip/chunk cookie.

Usually stroll through the Main St. stores and always used to get some interesting snack at the bakery. Still get a snack sometimes, but nat as interesting the last few years.

On my way out, I like to quickly glance at the lamp above the fire station. Gives me some time to reflect and thank someone who really shaped my childhood.

For Disneyland Park, when the time comes to 'leave' on the last day I am in town I have a few 'traditions'.

Always ride one of the last trains of the evening on 'Big Thunder Mountain Railroad'. It's a fun timing challange.
Once the ride is over, it's time to walk out of the Park.
Always stop in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle one last time to admire the night time lighting, then turn my back to it and walk down Main Street.

Since Main Street and its shops are usually still open for another hour after the Park officially 'closes', I will usually take up residence on the 'front porch' of Rolly's Palm Parlor and watch the tired masses exit in droves.
Sometimes, with a appropriate snack in hand from Casey's.

Depending on the Park hours for the day, the later evening closes are the best as you get a marvelous late period where you have the area pretty much to yourself.
Sitting on the porch with a nearly empty street, twinkling lights, and ambiant music drifting through the air is a great way to end a visit in a relaxing and thought inducing way.

After about an hour of this, it is time to depart ....but not without one last thing -
I always pay a moment of respect to a certain Main Street Window above the Magic Shop on my way out.
I acknowledge it every time i enter, so I do so during every exit as well....especially when 'leaving' the Park to begin the long journey back home 3,000 miles away.

I usually exit by walking down the center of Main Street and take a lingering look at the Castle before hitting the door. I always like to have that view as the last memory of my visit.
