Leave tomorrow - Any traffic concerns?

We leave tomorrow for our almost 3 week trip to the world. Will be driving all the way down I-75 from Ohio to Orlando. Any major traffic concerns I should be aware of? We will be through Lexington before rush hour, will get to Knoxville after the rush and will hit Atlanta in the late evening. Should minimize any delays there, but are there construction areas that are particularly bad this year? Any input is appreciated.

We can't wait!

Well we didn't come that whole way...as we are in Illinois near St. Louis...but we had no problems with traffic or construction. As a matter of fact, we just drove it straight through coming down & going home. He go I 255 to I 64 to 24 to 75. But none of the highways had any issues...it was a first for us. Now we went July 17 - 24th...but hopefully it will be smooth sailing for you all.

There had been alot of construction north and south of Chattanooga until recently. I know the northern part is finished, but not real sure about the southern part (north Georgia). But I did hear on the news early this morning that the barrels were now gone. My advice when you hit Atlanta, is not to take the bypass. Instead get in the HOV lane and you will get through Atlanta much quicker (that is if you have enough people in your car). As often as I travel through Atlanta, I never take the bypass.
When you hit mile marker 29, in south Tennessee, wave.

Nothing major going on the interstates in the Atlanta area, but you never know about accidents. If you check georgia-navigator.com you can look at construction updates (left side under Traffic) for I-75 in South Georgia. It is showing one lane affected (mile marker 156 to 155) from 9pm to 6am, and one lane affected from mile marker 18 to the state line. Good news is that it 3 lanes in each direction at these areas. Have fun.

I agree with Disneybird that HOV makes it a breeze to fly through Atlanta...ya know for all the years we have been driving to and from Florida..and its a lot, Atlanta has never been our bad area.

I just drove I-75 home from Sarasota last week. I traveled all the way to the north Georgia state line on I-75.

There is a TON of construction going on! I would say at least 100 miles of construction zones with 55 mph speed limits. There is one area (I can't remember if it is the one between Tifton and Valdosta or the one between Macon and Tifton, at any rate....) where the sign actually says "Construction for the next 40 miles" Sheesh!

just drove down from NJ about a month ago.. we had no traffic whatsoever at all. It was sort of surprising how little traffic we saw, actually. We drove down once before, leaving on a friday that time and there was a huge difference driving on a fri and sat compared to weekdays

I live in Atlanta, and im on 75 everyday, so to be honest with you, it all depends on what time in the evening you drive through atlanta, from about 4 to about 7 theres traffic, especially on fridays but if you get in the hov lane it'll speed you up somewhat, so if you wanted to take a lunch or early dinner break coming through atlanta between them times would be a good idea thats unless your on a time schedule, but atlanta traffic can be brutal at times

I've been going to Disney every year since 1997 and have never known a time when there wasn't construction south of Tifton. It had never caused us to go less than 55 mph though.

Oh, I'm not saying I drove less than 55 :drevil: I'm just saying the posted speed limit in all those construction zones was 55.

On the way down, I was never so glad to see the Florida state line, as it seemed all the construction stopped once you got to Florida. Or maybe it was just my imagination? :D By then I'd been in the car with my 2 small children (by myself) for nearly 8 hours.

I know everyone here is talking about I-75, but has the state of GA finished I-95 yet? Also, does anyone know if SC (south of I-26 to the GA line) or FL are working on there respective parts of I-95?

Here in KY thing should be OK, between my exit Mt Zion Road 178, (stop on by for cold drink or a clean bathroom I live 3mins from the exit:) and Lexington has off and on road construction that is currently off. Enjoy the trip and wave to us too!
We are heading down on Sept 30th, can't wait...
