Le Cellier at 4:20 or Yachtsmans/Monsieur Paul later?

Honestly, I've never been to Le Cellier but from what I can see people only rave about one steak in particular, where at Yachtsman you can't go wrong with any steak. I would choose Yachtsman but keep in mind that Yachtsman is a bit more formal than Le Cellier.

Help - OK so we are going up Labor Day weekend Fri night through Monday afternoon. Looking into dining plan and only need dinner Sat/Sun- so we can use 2 table service credits for a fancy dinner. Planning MK and Epcot and don't really care which days. Here is the delima:

I got a reservation at Le Cellier Sunday at 4:20, but can get more traditional dinner times at the others either day. We have never been to any of these, but I keep reading about the mushroom filet. OK foodies- help me out here. Thanks in advance.

I would with Le Cellier. Friends dined at Monsieur Paul in the spring and the review was not outstanding. They enjoyed it but it did not blow them away.

Here is his review:

the food was very good, and the atmosphere was quieter than downstairs. the menu was definitely more refined, and didn't have some of the 'typical' french dishes that they have downstairs, i.e., escargots, coq au vin, etc. but i'm pretty sure you can look at the menus online to get an idea of what they offer.

we couldn't see the fireworks as well from upstairs unless you were at a table right next to the window, but it was still nice to be able to look out the window at illuminations.

was it worth 2 TS meals versus 1 downstairs? maybe not, but it was fun to do once. next time i'll probably pick chefs de france, and then use my extra TS somewhere else!

Decided to go with MK Sat and leave for Yachtmans and go to Epcot Sat and do late dinner before fireworks at Tuto. Have passes for a year and will find a way into Cellier to compare. Thank you all for the advice!

We need time for things to happen.
I'd agree with the quality of the meal but the service? That all depends.

Ive had awful experiences there service/other guest-wise and refuse to go back.

I'm surprised to hear that. I've been a couple of times and the service has been excellent. Super attentative servers with a complete understanding of the menu.

I'm curious to hear what happen that drove you from there, especially the "other guest" piece.

Well, when you're in a signature restaurant, dropping some serious $ per person, with a dress code.... the last thing you expect is a truckload of people in t-shirts and yoga pants as well as an iPad with movies complete on full blast at the table next to you.

I didnt pay for that atmosphere. I paid for quiet elegance. It would be different if we were still in the park itself but this is one of Disney's Signature Restaurants at one of Disney's highest resorts.

I tried Shulah's and the steak and atmosphere is a significant step up.

Ouch this is embarrassing --- Look, I was going through a weird stage with the whole yoga pants thing...and the Ipad, well I was caught up in a Walking Dead watching marathon on Netflix and to say I was addicted is putting it mildly....

In all seriousness, that is a major bummer, when you drop that kind of coin and you end up caught up in someone else's "This is my vacation I paid for it and I'm going to do WHATEVER I want" world....but really I think it being "Disney" signature restaurant and it being a "Disney" resort is the issue here.
It's hard for Disney to enforce even the simplest of rules when you don't ever want to offend anyone and you're trying to make the whole world happy.

Look I'm a pretty liberal guy, but there is nothing wrong with enforcing a simple set of rules to make everyone's experience a WHOLE lot better. I'm in typical theme park clothes during the day at the parks, but I'm always in a collared shirt when we hit or TS dinners. It's not that hard to do a simple polo devoid of stains and some khaki shorts or non ripped jeans and you've already upped your game up. If someone has a problem with that, then they're not the kind of people that you would want in your 'Signature' establishment anyway.

For the record our experiences there were devoid of those type of characters. In fact the first time we went there was only 2 tables within eye shot that had children at it (our kids were 6 and 10 then), our kids rarely acted up at dinner but if they did, it was draw straws and one of us takes the kid outside to handle the situation -- The last time we were there we were sat in area where it was entirely all couples except for one other party of 4 (besides us) and no kids in site. We have a couple of teenagers now and as stuck as they are to their phones, we don't allow it at the dinner table.
It's unfortunate that ability to follow a few common courtesies these days is not so common.

Anyway bummer on the YS for you brother. I know it wouldn't take much more than that for me to take my business elsewhere so I get it. I do want to try Shula's one time, I've heard nothing but good about that joint.

I can understand Yachtsman's having a stricter dress code than LeCellier. It's in a hotel as opposed to a theme park. In the middle of the afternoon, you're more likely to get people in t-shirts and shorts at LeCellier. Still, my reservation is in the evening after a full day at AK. I still plan to show up in khaki's and a polo shirt.

We have had some great food at Le Cellier. We've also had some that was good, but not great. Based on on experience at Le Cellier, that wasn't related to the food, we will not be back. Yachtsman, on our last visit, turned out great beef. The porterhouse and ribeye were both great quality cuts and cooked well. We usually stay at the Contemporary, so it's an additional boat ride for us vs. Le Cellier. Yachsman is our new go-to steakhouse.

LOL and AMEN

I tend to park in a dry fit collard shirt most of the time and have no issue with a dress code. In fact, I would prefer a slightly stronger stance from the staff- esp at signature restaurants. On our trip in June we at at Kona in the Poly. Family next to us had 3 kids 2-6yrs old who didn't sit the entire meal AND the little one kept screaming any time Mom tried to get him to sit. Since the staff did nothing I finally became "that guy" and went to the table and suggested they take him outside for a moment- politely of course. They were able to calm him down a little, but it definatly affected my opinion of the restaurant (the tuna steak was awesome BTW) Remember- some of us ARE here on vacation.

No my DH gets different steaks every time from Le Cellier and has absolutely loved all of them!! He has pretty much tried all of them on the menu. :)

Oh, I'm not saying that Le Cellier doesn't have other tasty options. But overall, people seem to only speak highly of the filet.
Yeah I got what you were saying but i just wanted for others to know that alot of other items are delicious despite all the hype the filet gets. Also if others did not know when we went last Dec. they had told us they switched where they purchased the steaks(somewhere in Canada) and were an even higher quality meat(they explained in detail to us) and we both had really noticed the difference. We always loved them before but my DH was really in heaven this last visit. So if others have not been in several years they should give it another shot maybe. We will be going back yet again this December. Is a must do for us every trip. :)

Le cellier would be my choice. Early early breakfast then supper time doesn't seen as early at 4:20. Plus you have the whole evening free and can have a great bedtime snack.

My wife and I have finally got res. for Le Cellier in January.
I'd agree with the quality of the meal but the service? That all depends.

Ive had awful experiences there service/other guest-wise and refuse to go back.
We had an issue as well and have not returned since. My wife and I LOVED our meal and loved the theme at YS but our issue was also related to professionalism. We enjoy dressing formal when the occasion calls for it and really looked forward to an upscale dining experience. It was obvious that other guests thought they were at Sizzler or Olive Garden though. Kids running around and adults wearing shorts, sneakers and hats. It takes a touch of class away from the experience. We didnt have anybody playing movies on an Ipad though so it was tolerable.

Our bigger issue was that we felt extremely rushed throughout the meal by our waitress. She was never rude, just not giving us much time in between orders. Constantly at our table, but not to ask if our steaks were prepared correctly or if we would like a refill but to ask for our dinner and dessert orders. I understand that restaurants (especially Disney's) work off turnover and probly train CM's at restaurants to try and keep it moving. At a Signature spot you should not have to worry about it and especially not at the level of pressure we felt. We took our time nonetheless and enjoyed our meals. Coupling the lack of strictness on dress code and the very rushed service we have not been back. Im sure we will dine there again but with much lower expectations. (service wise). The food was excellent though and I would recommend anyone to give it a try.
