Last minute change to Christmas Trip!

Hi everyone :) I hope you are all doing great. This Christmas I was supposed to have a family vacation in Orlando from Dec. 24- Jan.6. At the last minute my parents and other family can't go but my daughter and me already have our plane tickets and we want to go. Originally we were going to stay offsite but since I would not be with them now I was thinking of shortening the trip and staying onsite. I found a great offer for the All Stars Music. This way I would feel safer and wouldn't have to rent a car...plus, we've never stayed onsite! What do you guys think? Onsite and shorter trip or offsite and longer trip? Is this a good hotel? Thanks!

I would definitely do that. The days you'd be cutting out would be obscenely crowded anyways, so you won't be missing much in terms of "getting things done." It's still a nine day trip and that's way longer than most people go.

That's a great idea. Staying on site is less stressful and as Captain said, the days you're missing are very crowded. Even with a short trip you'll still be there for New Year's Eve. All Start Music is a fun hotel and your daughter will love it!

Since you'll be staying on property, are you going to do the dining plan?

Thank you for your fast response!:cat: I think I will do that then, YAY! The deal I found was on Orbitz and this is why I think I can't add the dining plan. I wonder if I'll get magic bands and the opportunity of booking fastpasses earlier. The thing I have to figure out is how to get transportation for one Universal day, a possible Legoland day, and for a trip to Florida Mall. I really don't want to drive. These are not all musts but at least the Uni day has to happen.

Call Disney and see if there's a way you can do the dining plan separately. It's not necessary to do the dining plan, just a nice perk. As far as getting to Uni, you could always get a taxi instead of renting a car.

I used to take a taxi or this to get to universal. http://www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com/universal/#rt

Disney is so wonderful at Christmas time. The only time we use the dining plan is if it free (included) is the same time as our trip. I don't renember how much it is to purchase the plan but I would rather buy gift cards a head of time to use for food. I find when we use the dining plan I'm too full to try my favorite snacks like a dole whip or Mickey ice cream bar, etc. Before you purchase the dining do a little planing to see if how you want to spend your day and where you want to eat fit.

FWIW, we're staying for a few nights at the end of March and the DDP is $63/person per day. We made reservations at the more expensive, 1 credit, restaurants to ensure we don't overpay for food. If you're good with QS meals, then the DDP wouldn't be beneficial. I know they offer a QS DP, but I'm not sure of the cost.

Great idea. Also, the nature of having fewer people (just you and your daughter?) means being able to get what you want done in a shorter period of time anyway. Nine days is still plenty of time to do a lot.

Thank you all! I am still trying to make it at least a day longer :D but if I remain with the same dates it will be great anyway. I was wondering, if you book through Orbitz, do you still get to book fastpasses early, get magic bands and everything else? There must be a catch...

Yes. Just add your reservation number to MDE and you're good to go.
