Maby Indy will bne removed into a ride, or they will redo the stunt show to go with the next and (Hopefully) last Indiana Jones movie.

Actually, it can't go back to the original load area as the new animation building is in that space. I think that was the animation building the poster was talking about.

i'm not following all the talk of tearing out the Indy Stunt Show and putting in an attraction either. why would they do that? i could understand if Indy was losing attendance, but i saw the show in early June, and the theater was PACKED! besides, they just put in the fast pass there.

personally, i don't see anything wrong with adding a new show...that's what the park is based on; showbiz. sure, it could probably benefit from another attraction or two, but the hard part about that is, where would they go? i suppose they could put one behind the building fronts of NY St. or something. though, i'm not sure how much room there is behind those buildings, so i'm not sure how that'd work.

but what i don't get is why they're tearing down residential street (an area that was absolutely perfect for the Christmas lights, and something they could've updated every now and then with new houses) to build a whole new theater when they could've used the vacant theater they already have. or they could've tore that one down to build one more suitable for a stunt show.

so is the loading area going to be in the same place for Backlot Tour? and are guests going to have to cross over the path of the vehicles in order to reach the new theater?

No, if you go on the current behind the scenes tour (The water tank) the bulding that is behind the backdrop was where the bee was

Ah.. ok! What was originally in the building that houses Millionaire now? Was it one of the soundstages they did filming on?

Yes, your correct, well not one soundstage, they actually built the set on 2 of the original soundstages. I miss that walking tour, remember the little movie clip they did on the lottery?

The Indy Ride is something that's been on the list for MGM since before AK opened. It is going in. It's just a matter of time.:sohappy: As for it replacing the Stunt Show, it's very possible. In fact, it may even take up the Backlot Express as well. It may even jut out into the parking lot. They can't put Indy on Residential Street. There simply isn't enough room. You have a lake on one side, and the tram loading areas on the other. Come to think of it, I can barely see how they'll fit the Motors Action Show there.:veryconfu Oh well. Disney will find a way. They always do!

With the limited amount of open space at the Disney-MGM Studios, there are few places that can hold E-Ticket attractions at this point, without expanding either across the street or into the parking lot (the latter a definite possibility in the case of the Indiana Jones Adventure). The new stunt show amphitheatre is far larger than the Hunchback threatre, more toward the size of either the Indy show or the Hollywood Hills Amphitheatre, so it will utilize quite a bit of space. That is why they will, I'm guessing, knock down both the Hunchback theatre and Residential Street, breathing new life into the empty New York Street area. I would think Disney's thought is that they don't want there to be a day w/o a stunt show, which is why this new show will not replace the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. However, they feel the new show will be far superior to the Indy show, drawing guests away from it. Once Indy becomes "unpopular", Disney would be free to knock it down and add the Indiana Jones Adventure, if they so choose. Any of you who have been to Disneyland realize that the ride building for the Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye is MASSIVE, and even if it were to start where the entrance to the Stunt Spectacular currently is, it would most definitely have to extend into the parking lot. The shear magnitude of such a project places harsh limitations on possible locations for the attraction, but if Disney does, indeed, choose to bring the Indiana Jones Adventure to the Disney-MGM Studios, this location is the most likely.

Is it possible that a new motor stunt show and a smaller attraction will be built in that area where Residential Street lies. It seems to me that they have alot of space (just for the stunt show) if they knock down both the hunchback theater and Residential street. Perhaps they will put more that one attraction and do away with the whole backlot tour. Just some thoughts.

This seems kind of ridiculous to me. If they're putting in a new stunt show, why not use the Indiana Jones Amplitheater, tear out the current staging area and put the show in there? I think that they should have done that and then build something completly new where Residential Street was. I know they want to put an Indy ride where the Indy show is now, but it just seems silly to go through all this trouble. Oh, well.

As for Residential Street, it's was great while it lasted. Any word on if they'll be keeping any of the houses and relocating them elsewhere in the park. It just seems strage that Disney wouldn't be reusing anything from here elsewhere.

Do you recall the last time that residential street was updated? It is worth pointing out that at the time both MGM and Universal Studios were being constructed in FL, most major studios had abandoned the use of standard backlots for all but the most impossible and highly dangerous shots and today it is cheaper, quicker and more versatile to use advanced computer compositing to do most of these types of shots. Even the low budget stuff like commercials are often shot on location or in entirely custom built back lots these days.

With the real estate being what it is in MGM, it really doesn’t make sense to keep this area specifically for something that’s around for less than two months out of the year and only visible at night. I’m sure they probably won’t be getting rid of the lights completely as a result of this although they may get scaled back in their relocation. There is no reason for them to need to get rid of what is in the New York area and they might just spread the rest over more of the park…

Since most of these “homes” have not been used for anything in a decade or more, it seems kind of pointless to relocate them and since they are in fact just shells, it doesn’t seem like there would be much in the way of financial incentive to do so either.

As for the existing stage. Are you talking about the old Hunch Back theater? Compared to the other outdoor theaters in MGM this one is very small. I don’t think there would be enough room at this location to put the stunt show based on what Steve has posted about the new show.

Hopefully Disney won't ruin New York Street by putting some kind of huge theater right at the open end of it. In fact, hopefully Disney themes the whole show to a New York theme, and themes the show set to be New York, too. I'd guess this is what they'll do.

I figured I'd get an arial pic of Residential Street so you all could see how much (or little, depending how you look at it) room there is for the new show. Check my photo album for it...

Looks like a pretty good sized chunk of land to me – especially compared to catastrophe canyon down in the bottom corner. :)

I just got a good look at the Motor Stunt show on the Travel Channel. They are showing Disneyland Paris.

The Motor Stunt show looked really really cool! Much more exciting than the Indiana Jones Stunt show and I like the Indiana one.

Now I can't wait for this to open!

Cindy in NY

BTW: They are reshowing the episode at 1am tonight and on July 5th at 5pm

Yeah... I'm watching the same thing right now... It looks, IMO, a lot better than Indiana! But the bases of the 2 shows are the same (pick people from audience to be extras/show how stunts are shot/etc). Maybe they'll change it up a bit, though.
