Large scale demolition at Lost Continent

Instead they just leave a land completely empty for 2 years with no major attractions but a "top rated" Mediterranean style Applebees! (that we get to keep I guess?) and a talking fountain.

Or 7 years since everyone KNEW this land was gonna be closed. Instead of just letting it close and SOME construction start, they let this land rot for 7 years with STILL nothing to show for it and no construction to even begin at a specific timeframe.
Always so passionate about Universal shortcomings. 😂

Here, it’s fair. Lost Continent has AMAZING theming but has been abandoned in plain sight for years. It’s inexcusable. They should have had a plan when they hacked up the land for WWoHP over 15 years ago
I don’t necessarily disagree. Although at the timeframe presented, they added Hagrids and velocicoaster in IOA, and built an entirely new park. Most of which occurred during the COVID timeframe which Disney likes to cry about. So it wasn’t exactly like they were sitting on their hands doing nothing. But would I have liked to see Poseidon’s fury remain open until today, sure. In the same way I want to see something go into the wonders of life pavilion.

At least Wonders is largely blocked. On busy days, the Hagrid queue still snaked through the carcass of Sinbad. Their abandonment of theater entertainment at IoA is bizarre when Epic has two strong offerings.

You seem to take great joy in mentioning this every chance you get, but the overlapping of design & construction is irrelevant here. We are talking about "planning," ie the entire design phase, starting with blue sky. I mentioned construction only to emphasize just how long these projects can sometimes take to fully bring to fruition, and the one I chose to use as an example was not "fast tracked" by any reasonable definition of the term. It took more time to finish just the construction than entire parks. So have several other projects in recent years. So even if they decided they're going to build them the day before they were announced (or actually brought out the equipment unannounced in Universal's case), which they obviously don't do, it would not make any difference.

If they are going to replace Simpsons before the contract expires, and do so competently, they need a solid idea yesterday. They can't just start demo when the time comes and then fly by the seat of their pants (and I guarantee that's not what they're doing in LC.)
I mention it because it seems to be something people have trouble understanding. I’m assuming you’re talking about TRON which absolutely utilized fast-track project delivery.

It’s not irrelevant because it means you don’t need to do all of the planning before work starts or something closes. This thread is about work starting soon for a project that is not done with design and isn’t as old as you say is necessary to be at this point. Similarly, a replacement for The Simpsons does not need to be fully designed before the land closes, whether that happens early as has been considered, in line with the contract or after a short extension.

Part of the reason Poseidon’s Fury closed prematurely is because of the lingering effects of how much Universal Creative was absolutely decimated during COVID.

I've been listening to some of the old Merlinwood and The Flying Unicorn's soundtrack recently, and it's such a shame that that music could only be heard in the park for under 10 years compared to everything else. Going to miss hearing the music of Sinbad's Bazaar and The Lost City soon, but hope its replacement has just as good a score

Wonders of Life is off to the side but I agree, WOL has been abandoned for farrrr too long especially when there are 2 incredibly obvious IPs to put in that building themed to health.

If the roles were reversed however, I anticipate everyone here would be talking about how "Disney is leaving one of their best themed lands to rot while they add a whole new park with the same issues as their previous one and adding in even MORE coasters that families, kids, and older adults cannot enjoy as they cut live entertainment because they don't want to pay actors" I mean I've heard some version of all of those complaints before and all of them are happening at UO right now to an uproaring silence.
