Large scale demolition at Lost Continent

Pokemon, Zelda, Waterworld, Grinch Krumpit coaster... so many options.

Exciting to see that UOR is at least moving forward with projects.

The phrasing suggests we should expect some sort of quiet period between once they fully demo and a new project opens?
I don't like the way she phrased that. They need to get a move on.

I simply read it as, “yes, we are demolishing structures but we aren’t ready to announce the replacement.”

This is Universal. They have no problem beginning construction before announcing what they’re building. They wouldn’t be demoing if they weren’t going to build something soon. They’ve already shown a willingness to leave the shell of Lost Continent visible until they were ready to replace.

Didn’t they just last week downplay the Wicked talk?

If it’s Zelda, Nintendo likes coordinated messaging (like we saw today with a bunch of Mario games AND the next movie announced for Mario’s 40th). I could see an announcement with the teaser for the Zelda film sometime next year. Zelda (the franchise) turns 40 next year.
They did downplay it for Epic Universe and did mention Wicked could come to other Universal theme parks in Orlando.

As far as Zelda, the problem is the rumors lately has that IP going to Epic Universe due to 2 reasons with the being with the tease in the Super Nintendo shop in Epic. The 2nd reason is the rumor going around is Nintendo wants Zelda IP in Florida to be in Epic Universe.

And DreamWorks Land took Pokémon’s spot.

I think Dreamworks instead of Pokemon is not a good move.

Also right now there has been rumors of Universal have problems getting a theme park agreement for Pokemon in terms of replacing Simpsons at USF The Pokemon issue is Pokemon is owned by 3 companies and Universal is having issues with at least one of the 3 companies that own Pokemon.

Pokémon isn’t replacing The Simpsons. They moved on from that.

The whole purpose of creating The Pokémon Company was to have an entity that could act independently instead of the owners having to always be so active in decision making.

I would be funny if universal destroys, replaces and opens a new land before Disney opens the new land at AK.

I am presuming that the new AK land is the first destroy and replace to be completed by Disney of the upcoming work.

Just in time to stoke my continued goodwill! 😆

I’ll give them credit that I didn’t think we’d get a major project again this decade.
Maybe slow rolling looks cynical and not as “genius” as some think?

I honestly think she's just playing it coy about what they're doing. They love to start building things before they announce what it is, then it feels like they build it in one year when it's actually been two. With Disney, it's usually five years AFTER the announcement of what it is!
As it should be…build it or shut up

It did not. After Super Nintendo World was moved into what became Epic Universe, the plan was Pokémon in Kid’s Zone and Legend of Zelda in Lost Continent.
Pokemon was still on the table for a different part of the park when DreamWorks was greenlit, so one didn't replace the other. If you've heard any other developments, that's news to me.

Regardless of the USF chatter, the question remains: what replaces Lost Continent?
Pure speculation but I think Zelda or Wicked seem to be the frontrunners at the moment. Zelda for the long rumours (although they've gone quiet and been confused with the Zelda references at Epic and the OG Hero parking lot sign). Wicked seems favorable by Mark Woodbury somewhere around the world and popularity wise seems like it deserves something bigger than a themed store at USF

Pokemon would strike me as both their highest priority and the longest in the tooth.

Both One Piece and Wicked, while almost equally as old, have more recently been alerted to executives as popular. I just don’t think either would be progressed enough to trigger a tear down. Everyone understood the enduring phenomenon of Pokemon correctly by 2016.

Toon lagoon is also eventually going to need upheaval anyways, for something like One Piece if they are serious about that franchise.

The way I understand it, at least for now, not everything is being torn down.

For a long time I thought making Toon Lagoon a Sponbebob area was the obvious choice, but now that it's destined for Universal Kids, I guess not. One Piece may be a better candidate.

Pokémon going into Islands of Adventure doesn't quite make as much sense to me as USF, but that's just personal preference compared to Zelda or Wicked. If we're still trying to hang onto the idea of Islands being about books, than Wicked/Oz is the most logical and could work as a better thematic bridge between Seuss and Harry Potter
