Except if you're really not sure what you're doing, you should be careful when messing around on the bios

It's not the 90s...windows bios installer are pretty reliable and simple (you're literally just double clicking an executable) and chances are your bios has a fail safe to make sure it doesn't get erased from the internal RAM without a new one being implemented...they were pretty much made this way because most people don't know what they are doing...

Still, if it were me, I'd rather have tech support on the line than risk turning my machine into a $500 paperweight

Actually, I have multiple friends from India, one girl who I was close to back in middle school, so I'm used to the accent. HP gave me a survey about my experience once and I told them they needed to provide English lessons to their workers (like it's really going to happen, but...) since the guy kept apologizing for being slow and telling me his English wasn't the best. Since I know how hard it is to learn a foreign language, I'm fairly patient.

Dunno, but that's why I would contact them. Just in case. Plus if something were to go wrong, they would be at fault, not me, so I wouldn't have to debate with them about getting a new machine

Very, very true. Flashing a BIOS these days is incredibly easy, but you still stand the risk of bricking a machine if something goes wrong.
