They filed eprmits to remove the Leave and Legacy kiosk from the mirror column on SSE!

It's not all of LaL, that probably wont happen ever because of all of the people who paid - it wouldn't be fair - but it gets rid of an eyesore!

I'm so happy, I've wanted that crappy kiosk gone for ages!

Update: the permit also lists the current sales area for LaL on the side of the entrance plaza as being marked for removal.

You know I wish that they could maybe just create a garden somewhere near the entrance and move all the Leave a Legacy photos there and get rid of the tombstones. Well, a man can dream can't he. :animwink:

They never sold LaL stones from the kiosk. It was used for posting the "dailies" of purchased images (never really used cuz it never sold well) and had 2 TVs (long since removed) talking about LaL as well as information about how to locate an image on the stones. It was useless and abandoned.

Somebody bought in... oh wait, weren't they giving these away w/pkgs for some time too?

Oo, looking at page 2 though - it looks like Legacy sales points are being removed alltogether. It has the kiosks and photo center to the side marked for removal as well.

It wraps around the mirror column, right between the two stores. It was an eyesore I hated - I took pictures of it once and intended to write a scathing criticism about it, but decided not to since I wanted to be more positive in life.

Oh - and that Public Relations person who said "all work will take place inside of Spaceship Earth" can kiss my tushy.

WOW! Great news!

Looks like Leave a Legacy will do what we always wanted - it will simply Leave. Now what to do with the entryway headstones...

Interesting. Let's play "What If"... the Leave a Legacy agreement people sign says that the thing is only guaranteed to be there for a certain amount of time (30 or 60 years, maybe?) Don't know if it actually guarantees where in Epcot it'll be. So I don't know if they could move the metal plaques themselves. Wonder if they could at least consolidate them into a few of the sculptures then get rid of the ones closest to SSE?

When I went for my honeymoon in 2003, it was part of the "silver' package (and I assume gold and platinum as well)...you could do that, or get some other weird souvenier.

Even free, and on our honeymoon trip that we really wanted to remember, my husband and I still chose not to do it. The bricks with people's names on them (outside MK) are cool IMHO...the tombstones with people's pictures on them are just creepy.

I don't know exactly where they'd move them to, though, without taking up space for a future attraction.

i think removing the plates that the are etched on and placing them in or on.... say a special wall or something, oh, i got it, they can cover the old video phones by the entrance inside and Kevin Yee would be estatic. Man, that would take care of some Declining by Degrees wouldnt Kevin?

Rest in peace, LaL kiosk...you'll still leave behind such grand tombstones to be remembered by. (For the time being...)

Really though, this is great news. The kiosk, aside from pointlessly touting a failed marketing ploy and cluttering up the entrance to Spaceship Earth, was badly faded and just looked dead. Now there's one less reason to dislike the post-millennium entrance to Epcot!

I figured this was coming anyway, since they will probably need easier access to the column once the SSE rehab begins in earnest.

Now, since it seems an end is being put to the whole venture, it should follow that those mostly-empty stones are just unnecessary, no? I'm not naive enough to think this is a certain sign of the total removal of the Vietcot Walls, but when you look at how much blank space there is on them...it kind of eliminates the argument that they need to stay there for future generations. I do recognize that it was kind of a nice idea in the first place (though, let's not kid ourselves, purely money-driven) but its execution was pretty poor...they can and should do something with the photos (in a garden, as others have said), but it's more pointless now than ever to keep the entire behemoths standing.

This news brings a smile to my face and warm fealings to my heart.

Now they should remove the wand and hand and start scaling back the leave a legacy graveyard!
