LA Times: Is Disney Paying Its Fair Share In Anaheim

So now the LA Times is on Disney's Naughty list, and why the OC Register and the Southern California News Group (Digital First) Had the series of articles and nothing from the LA Times...

http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-disneyland-parking-20171026-story.html

>>Resort representatives didn’t immediately respond to a call and email from the Los Angeles Times but have confirmed to other news outlets that the Eastern Gateway project has been put on hold. The project would have included 6,800 parking spaces plus driveways where taxis, buses and shuttles could drop off park visitors.<<

Gee, maybe publishing made up stories at the request of a political group isn't the best idea!?

Now they're unable to print actual news, only fabrications. Nice and so credible!

>>Hubris? Ignorance? Shameless self-promotion? All of the above?

Miller’s implied claim betrays an embarrassing level of ignorance about how development works. Think about it: Miller is saying that in the 30 days since his articles appeared, Disney was able to whip up a ready-to-go development plan that integrates a new, cutting-edge 4-Diamond hotel with its other three Anaheim hotel properties (the Disneyland Hotel, the Grand Californian and Paradise Pier) plus a new 6,500 space parking structure.

Anyone with a passing understanding of development and all the studies, plans, etc., a project of this scale would involve, knows that what Miller is claiming is impossible.

Miller reportedly spent nearly a year working on his two-part series and Disney and Anaheim politics – and it still came out sharply biased. Surely the implied claim that these articles killed the Eastern Gateway Project merit a few hours of investigation prior to being made?<<

>>And it’s laughable to imply Disney made these decisions and developed these plans in the 30 days since Miller’s articles appeared. That kind of self-aggrandizement further erodes the already-compromised credibility of Miller’s articles.<<

Disney's intention on the new hotel has been out there before.. and was part of the hotel tax rebate discussion. The parking garage has been earmarked since M&F was built. All of these have been in Disney's quiver and its been about timing and need... and if it still makes sense. This was the big dog opening his desk drawer... and simply pulling out an alternate that cuts out the conflicting party before they even knew the negotiations were over.

The LA Times writer sounds like the ambitious eager kid who loudly preaches in the center of the room... and isn't even aware of how the real work is done quietly in the shadows. Either extremely naive... or extremely egotistical...

That's true, outside of Disneyland is disgusting. When walking on Habor Blvd. all I smell is pot and see tons of homeless everywhere. It's quite sad being RIGHT next to Disneyland.

I smelled pot in Disneyland, in the bathrooms, the aroma around Adventureland and Tomorrowland. I smelled pot inside Louis Vuitton last week. There homeless everywhere. That is reality.

The homeless are not on trail here.

Weird that you smell pot at Disneyland but I never smell pot at Magic Mountain. Must be the clientele. :p

I truly think some guest are smoking weed in the parks if given chance. Why would it smell strong in restrooms of times I have encountered the smell. :hungover:

I think that area is more controlled by Disney. Tourists are going to be on Disney property for the most part. Disney isn't going to allow homeless outside of the PPH or GCH.

Disney Way, not Disneyland Drive. At the threshold of the pedestrian path that would have lead to the Eastern Gateway.

Since the Eastern Gateway is dead, I don't think they would get handouts there anytime soon.

But you said, "If the bridge were there, the tourists would be gone and so would the homeless". Assuming you meant the proposed Harbor overpass I'm saying that the homeless could have simply relocated to the Disney Way pedestrian entrance to the resort.

Your right. People are going to have to run the gauntlet of homeless under those power lines. It will be like facing down fifty monsters with chainsaws at Universal's Halloween Horror.

Disney has enacted revenge on the LA Times. If you ask me this is beyond repehensible.

Times note on Disney blackout

The annual Holiday Movie Sneaks section published by the Los Angeles Times typically includes features on movies from all major studios, reflecting the diversity of films Hollywood offers during the holidays, one of the busiest box-office periods of the year. This year, Walt Disney Co. studios declined to offer The Times advance screenings, citing what it called unfair coverage of its business ties with Anaheim. The Times will continue to review and cover Disney movies and programs when they are available to the public.

I'm really beginning to question my relationship with Disney. This is beyond petty. Let's not forget that Disney is a news media company too.

Is it really all that surprising? It was a one-sided hit job of an article with a headline that was misleading and really was just meant for clicks. It doesn't even answer its own question that is asked in the title. It is really an op-ed piece pretending to be journalism. Too many supposed journalists these days insert their own opinion into their articles that really should be on a blog. Unfortunately the days of unbiased journalism is becoming few and far between. Instead we have bloggers pretending to be journalists.
