Kona Cafe Reservation

I was wondering if it would be advisable to make a reservation for breakfast at the Kona Cafe for this Friday.

I am taking a trip on very short notice, leaving in a few hours, so I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Yes. You will want to make a ARD for any and all table service dining you wish to do at WDW. Walk up dining borders on rare to nonexistent these days.

Not necessarily...it depends on what time you get there.

My wife and I have NEVER made an ADR for Breakfast at the Kona Cafe and have never been turned away. Our secret? We simply show up at 7:30 AM when they open. There are always tables available. For that matter, on our last trip we ate lunch there with no ADR as well when we showed up at 11:30. So while it IS best to make an ADR, it isn't always a must. good luck.

It doesn't hurt.

Even when more than half the tables are empty I've watched walk-ups wait for up to 20 minutes while I rarely waited more than two with an ADR. With ADRs you get the next available table while as walk-up you get the next available table after those with ADRs are seated.

And to explain: The half of the tables empty doesn't mean they'll keep seating parties until every table is full. They seat the number of parties they have servers enough to serve.

I've walked up for lunch before, and you probably could walk up for breakfast sometimes, but it's always safer to have an ADR if you can. The breakfast there is delicious - it's worth making a reservation for. :)

We've never actually made a reservation for Kona Cafe. We always manage to get a table with a little wait (5-15 minutes, tops). The mass crowd roaming the area is generally waiting for 'Ohana. Don't forget to order a Kona Cool Sundown, my favourite WDW alcoholic beverage!

I am a firm believer in ADRs. However, I have eaten breakfast and lunch at Kona cafe numerous times with no ADR and no wait. I tend to go to breakfast around 8:30am and lunch at 1:00pm.

Well, we decided on Wednesdy that we were going to Orlando on Thursday so we didn't have the luxury of making an ADR. But we did go to the Poly on Thursday and asked if we coould make an ADR for the next morning. The hostess said that they weren't accepting any at that time but we could walk-in the next morning.

Ultimately, we opted not to go.

Thanks for the replies.

Kona is one of those restaurants that you can get into if you don't go at a peak time when you don't have an ADR. However, it is always better to have one if you are planning on going. If you can call and get an ADR right now, then you save yourself from potential disappointment later. The only time you shouldn't have an ADR is if you have no plan of going to a restaurant and just stumble upon it when you get hungry.

When I called to make our ADRs, the agent suggested I have them, especially since I wanted to be there at a specific time and day (have to have Tonga Toast for my birthday breakfast!). I just had to call the other day to add a person to them and they warned me that I might not get the same time, but I did. So, I do think it's a matter of timing.

It's nice to have one (maybe especially for dinner), but you can walk into Kona for sure. Personally the grilled chicken sandwich at lunch is the only thing I'll ever get there again. It's fantastic.
