(Kind of) solo running trip?

Hi everyone, I am itching to sign up for a race again. The last one I did was the Wine and Dine back in November, and this is probably the first time in 4 years I don't have a future race to plan/save for. The issue is that my usual RunDisney travel buddy was my ex husband, and I've been having a hard time convincing myself that I'd be okay with visiting the parks/dining out solo for the entire duration. I was wondering if anyone else is/was in a similar predicament, and how they approached it? Ideally, I'd love to go and meet up for a few hours with some fellow runners each day, just to shake everything up :) Something tells me I can't be the only one that's having a hard time convincing friends and family that traveling to Disney once or twice a year makes perfect sense heheh.

I love going to Disney solo and meeting up with friends when the rest of my family cant go. I also run the runDisney events solo.

You should give it a try.

I think I am in your same boat. I ran the wine and dine last year, and the people I went with don't want to do it this year. I really want to do it again. I believe I am going to do it, just need to sit down and make the reservations.

I think the run would be a blast solo, just kind of worried about park time and meal time being a bit lonely solo. Anyone done it and have any experiences/tips to share?

I did my first solo trip this past March. It was a short trip, but so exciting on many levels. You can do whatever you want, whenever you want. I did everything I would do w/a group, but by myself. There is always somebody to talk to, be it cast members or other guests. Highly recommend it.

Thanks for the encouragement! Really thinking about it :)

Rundisney Lover, I am a single female Disney runner who travels to the World twice a year, mostly solo. I have the best trips when I go alone as I can do what I want when I want and change my mind a hundred times without annoying anyone. Traveling for the races gives you a purpose/schedule for the expo/race time, usually the beginning of my trip. I have done the parks on some trips, always someone to talk with as mentioned above but I have also done non-park trips where I spend more time at Downtown, exploring the different resort areas (Boardwalk is great with the entertainers and Jellyrolls); I have even ventured off property to Universal Studios to see Harry Potter (booked bus transport through Mears). Meals are not a problem for me as eating alone doesn't bother me (people watching is a wonderful activity or bring a book/park map/etc. to have a prop); again, there are always people to talk to, cast members, other guests, whomever. As you walk around solo, you will pick up on others who are also traveling alone and are perhaps a bit more approachable if you are apprehensive. Best advice I can give is whatever you do, get out of the hotel room. Don't spend your time isolated as there is so much to do and so many people to experience it with. Most of all: Enjoy!

Sure, there are times where you think, "Wish I had someone to share this with" but it will be offset with freedom! One thing to try is Teppan Edo where you have to sit with others. Or spring for a tour. I always enjoy the people on tours and I'm not that outgoing. Oh, and don't forget the single rider lines. That can be fun if you're riding with someone who is a first-timer and is a little nervous.

Kind of a side story: I was at AK with family and they didn't want to go on Expedition Everest again. So I hit the single rider and I sat next to this cute little girl who told me, "Don't worry sir, this isn't as scary as it looks." Guess I looked nervous. :D

My first thing to do on coasters and other vicious rides is to see that no small children are around me, anyone sitting next to me learns a whole new language that is best left to adulthood.
