kid's meals

Does anyone know if they will let a 12 and 14 yo child order off the childrens menu. I am just wondering because at CRT for lunch in Feb. our server questioned the ages of our children. I told her I did not want our children wasting food and they did not care for the adult entrees. I further told her she could charge them an adult price if she had to. Is this policy? Anyway they ended up getting something from the adult entrees but we have ressies in several sit down restraunts next week and I don't want to go through this again. Thanks.:)

I don't know if this will work for you (it depends upon the server) but it has worked for me in the past. I have had my daughter (who is a vegetarian) look over the whole menu. When the server came to take our order, I very politely and apologetically told him that there was NOTHING on the menu that looked appealing to my daughter....could she POSSIBLY order from the children's menu, if it wouldn't be too much trouble? (spoken very plaintively) She has always been accomodated. ;) Although, don't say your child is a vegetarian, of course!

Your other alternative would be to have them split an entree...my in-laws do this all of the time, as they are very health conscious, and eat very small portions.

I'm almost 18, and i usually end up ordering the chicken fingers of the kids menu, i am a picky eater. I don't think they have ever said anything to me....

And if they don't let you, get up and leave.

That's what we do. We were at this Italian place once, and my neighbors younger kids and older step-daughter were with us. To make a long story short, they wouldn't let the older step-daughter order the kid's ribeye off the childs menu, and made a big deal over her age, so we got up and left...I guess the drinks were on the house.

I hate when restaraunts do that. They act like it's coming out of their pocket.

Oh well, end of my rant. ;)

I don't see what a big deal it would be. At least they are getting your money instead of going somewhere else. I hate wasting food and have the extra pounds to show for it. I have been trying to get in the habit of ordering smaller portions, even if it means kiddie menus. When we go to WDW we try to either split a burger/fry meal or order burgers, no fries. My treat for that is to get a kingsize iced tea with plenty of lemon. And I won't share my tea with anyone especially if it is fresh brewed.:animwink:

Exactly my point. I'm sure if you ask, they would be happy to do that. If not, take my advice and walk out! :D

I think a courteous request is the key here. I've never had a bad experience with a cast member in a Disney sit-down restaurant, and we've had to make our share of unusual requests in the past!:animwink:

A very long time ago, in a galaxy far, far way (so okay, it was the 90's ! :) ) I was told that guests of any age could order from the "Mickey's little friends" menus. Lately I've seen that on the menus that there are now age limits....anyone know what's up with that? I'm a bit over 12, and it already stinks that I can't visit the buffets because I can't possibly eat $20 worth of ANYTHING...now this too? Should the "under-eaters" among us really have to suffer?

When I stayed at the Polynesian in late April/early May I wanted to order chicken tenders for myself (they are only on the kids menu). The server was very polite, and told me that I could order them, but she would have to give me an "adult portion" rather than a kids portion, and she gave me the price for that portion, which I ordered. It was about twice the size of the kids portion (I think I had six or seven pieces of chicken instead of three); I don't remember what I paid. I think this has become the new standard, if you are over 12. Of course, no one asks your age-- so if your kids look about 12, it should be okay.

The message here seems to be "if you don't ask, you don't get"

From reading many different threads about many different topics around WDW, the underlying theme is that Disney will usually do whatever it take to keep the guests happy. Afterall, unhappy guests don't return and don't spend money.

I don´t think there should be a problem ordering from the kid´s menu... just because they are named like that, doesn´t mean that an adult can´t have something on the kid´s menu and then some alcohol or an adult salad, or whatever else.

I think the real situation comes when a kid right on the age limit has to pay an adult buffet. Then, there is a diference. The child probably won´t eat that much, but will still have to pay for it. Such is life... :animwink: I don´t see it the other way though... an adult asking to pay a kid´s buffet... if I were the waiter, I would say "sorry, no". :animwink:

I almost always order something from the kid's menu and I am 17. They have the best chicken fingers and Mickey Mouse maccaroni and cheese in the world. You can get them at just about any restaurant in WDW.

What a ridiculous way to run a restaurant!!! My wife orders from the childrens menu on occation and for them to restrict the kids menus is just plain dumb. What if a 10 year old wants something from the adult menu?

"Oops, no, sonny, I'm afraid you're to young for the sirloin steak!"

If it's a buffet menu then fair enough, but if it's a case of an adult only wanting the chick stix at a regular service restaurant and they refused then I would certain take my business elsewhere.

The valuable lesson in restauranteering.

"The custromer is always right, even when they are wrong!"

(It's called customer care BTW)

So I guess the next question is, who has the best kids meal?
In The Land you can get a bowl of Mickey pasta with suace, breadstickand small soda for under 4 dollars. Just be sure to ask for extra marinara for the breadstick.

I am not tying to stir trouble, I do mean this nicely - I would NEVER ask for or expect to pay the child's price for the buffet. I'm trying to get used to the fact that I'll never be able to eat at a Disney buffet - they all sound soooo YUMMY! I was just woundering about the regular kid's meals.
