Honestly, put them in whatever will allow them to be the most comfortable, and least fidgety, while still consisting of a shirt, pants/shorts, and shoes. Or a nice sundress for her.

Shorts are totally fine now! If you're on a longer cruise with formal and semi-formal night I'd probably dress them up a little more, but other nights shorts are fine. Although if you want to dress them up a little more you certainly won't be alone!

On cruise casual days we let the boys (now 3 and 11) wear shorts and t-shirts. On the semi-formal nights we will put them in pants (khakis) and a nice shirt. On formal nights we have them wear dress shirts and a tie for the older one.

Hi Mikewdw,

According to me, children should wear that outfit in which they feel their comfort zone because if we force them to wear an outfit according to our choice they will get irritated after some time and bother you. So they should wear dresses according to their choice.
